สำนักงานสถิติแห่งชาติเห็นความสำคัญของปัญหาดังกล่าว จึงทำการสำรวจความคิดเห็นของประชาชนเกี่ยวกับสถานการณ์การแพร่ระบาดยาเสพติดอย่างต่อเนื่อง ซึ่งผลสำรวจในปี 2555 นายวิบูลย์ทัต สุทันธนกิตติ์ ผู้อำนวยการสำนักงานสถิติแห่งชาติ เปิดเผยว่าเกือบครึ่งของประชาชนระบุว่ายังคงมีปัญหาการแพร่ระบาดของยาเสพติดในชุมชน/หมู่บ้าน (ร้อยละ 40.4) ซึ่งเพิ่มขึ้นจากปี 2552 ที่มีประชาชนประมาณ 1 ใน 3 ที่ระบุว่ามีปัญหาฯ (ร้อยละ 32.2)

แม้ภาครัฐจะมีมาตรการเชิงรุกในการปราบปราบกระบวนการค้ายาเสพติดอย่างเข้มงวด แต่ประชาชนยังคงคิดว่ายาเสพติดหาซื้อได้ง่ายขึ้นมากกว่าเดิมเกือบเท่าตัวจากร้อยละ 8.0 ในปี 2552 เป็นร้อยละ 13.0 ในปี 2555 เช่นเดียวกับปัญหาการแพร่ระบาดของยาเสพติดในโรงเรียน/สถานศึกษาที่ประชาชนประมาณ 1 ใน 3 ยังคงคิดว่ามีปัญหาอยู่

แม้ภาครัฐจะกวดขันการจัดระเบียบสังคมในชุมชน/หมู่บ้าน โดยเฉพาะการมั่วสุมของเด็ก/เยาวชนตามสถานบันเทิงต่างๆ เพื่อป้องกันการถูกชักนำไปในทางที่ผิด เนื่องจากในสถานบันเทิงมักหนีไม่พ้นที่จะต้องมีการดื่มสุราอย่างแน่นอน และสุราอาจถือเป็นจุดเริ่มต้นของการเสี่ยงต่อการอยากรู้อยากลองของวัยรุ่นเช่นกัน ข้อมูลการดื่มสุราของสำนักงานสถิติแห่งชาติ พบว่า ตั้งแต่ปี 2547 – 2554 กลุ่มวัยรุ่นมีการดื่มสุราเพิ่มขึ้นจากร้อยละ 23.5 ในปี 2547 เป็นร้อยละ 23.7 ในปี 2554 แม้ดูเหมือนเพิ่มขึ้นเพียงเล็กน้อยแต่ถือได้ว่าเป็นจุดกำเนิดที่ทำให้วัยรุ่น/เยาวชนมีโอกาสสัมผัสกับยาเสพติด และตกเป็นทาสยาเสพติดได้ในที่สุด
