การแบ่งระดับการศึกษา
ระดับการศึกษาของประเทศมาเลเซียแบ่งระดับการศึกษาออกเป็น 5 ระดับดังนี้
1. การเตรียมความพร้อม ( Pre – School Education) คือการศึกษาระดับอนุบาล (Kindergarten) โดยมาเลเซียจะให้เด็กเรียนในระดับนี้ตอนอายุ 4 ปี
2. ประถมศึกษา (Primary Education) เด็กทุกคนจะต้องเริ่มเรียนในระดับนี้เมื่ออายุครบ 6 ปี (โดยให้เริ่มนับจากวันที่ 1 มกราคม ของปีการศึกษาอื่น ๆ) ซึ่งจะใช้เวลาเรียน 6 ปี เหมือนกับประถมศึกษาปีที่ 1 – 6 ของประเทศไทยโรงเรียนประถมศึกษาในมาเลเซียแบ่งออกเป็น 2 ประเภท คือ
3. มัธยมศึกษา (Secondary Education) เป็นการศึกษาต่อเนื่องจากระดับประถมศึกษามีระยะเวลาเรียน 5 ปี หากเป็นโรงเรียนรัฐบาลจะสอนโดยใช้ภาษามาเลเซีย ซึ่งการศึกษาระดับนี้แบ่งการศึกษาออกเป็น 2 ระดับ คือ
(1.) Lower Secondary (Form 1 – 3 )
(2.) Upper Secondary (Form 4 – 5)
โรงเรียนที่เปิดสอนในระดับ Upper Secondary มี 3 สาขาคือ
– เน้นด้านวิชาการ (Art & Science)
– เน้นด้านเทคนิค
– เน้นด้านวิชาชีพ
นักเรียนที่เลือกเรียนสายวิชาการและเทคนิคเมื่อจบแล้วจะต้องสอบผ่านข้อสอบของรัฐ (Sijit Pelajaran Malaysia: SPM) และสายวิชาชีพคือ (Sijit Pelajaran Malaysia Vokasional:SPMV) หากสำเร็จการศึกษาระดับนี้ วุฒิที่ไดจะเทียบเท่ากับ GCSE “ O” Levels เมื่อจบการศึกษาระดับนี้ สามารถเลือกว่าจะเรียนต่อในสายวิชาชีพ (Certificate หรือ Diploma) หรือ เรียนต่อในระดับอุดมศึกษา (Higher Education)
