ขนบธรรมเนียมประเพณีชาวมลายู
          ประเทศ มาเลเซียเป็นหนึ่งในบรรดาประเทศที่ประกอบขึ้นด้วยหลากหลายชาติพันธุ์   ประเทศมาเลเซียมีดินแดนแบ่งออกเป็น 2 ส่วน ส่วนแรกเป็นรัฐต่างๆจำนวน 11 รัฐตั้งอยู่บนแหลมมลายู   อีกส่วนหนึ่งมี 2 รัฐตั้งอยู่บนเกาะบอร์เนียว   ทั้งสองส่วนนี้มีความแตกต่างทางชาติพันธุ์ รัฐที่ตั้งอยู่บนแหลมมลายูประกอบด้วยชาติพันธุ์ใหญ่ๆจำนวน 3 ชาติพันธุ์ คือ มลายู จีน และอินเดีย ส่วนรัฐที่ตั้งอยู่บนเกาะบอร์เนียว มีจำนวนชาติพันธุ์หลายสิบชนเผ่า
          ในที่นี้ขอกล่าวถึงชาวมลายูในประเทศมาเลเซีย ชาวมลายูในประเทศมาเลเซีย มีขนบธรรมเนียมประเพณีอยู่ 2 แบบ คือ
          1. ชาวมลายูที่ยึดถือขนบธรรมเนียมประเพณีแบบ Adat Temenggong  เป็น ขนบธรรมเนียมที่ยึดถือในรัฐส่วนใหญ่ของแหลมมลายู ยกเว้นรัฐนัครีซัมบีลัน ว่ากันว่าเป็นขนบธรรมเนียมประเพณีที่ยึดถือมาตั้งแต่ยุคแรกรัฐมะละกาจนขยาย ไปยังรัฐต่างๆในแหลมมลายู ขนบธรรมเนียมนี้จัดตั้งขึ้นโดย Datuk Ketemenggungan จากเกาะสุมาตรา จากการที่ขนบธรรมเนียมประเพณี Adat Temenggong มีการผสมผสานกับขนบธรรมเนียมเดิมที่มีอยู่แล้ว จึงได้เกิดเป็นกฎหมายมีชขื่อแตกต่างกัน เช่น กฎหมายมะละกา (Undang-Undang Melaka) กฎหมายโยโฮร์(Undang-Undang Johor) และกฎหมายเคดะห์ (Undang-Undang Kedah)
