ไทยและ EU มีความสนใจที่จะมีความร่วมมือแบบไตรภาคีกับประเทศที่สาม โดยเฉพาะในสาขาที่ไทยมีความเชี่ยวชาญและอยู่ในความต้องการของประเทศผู้รับ EU ให้ความสนใจต่อความร่วมมือแบบไตรภาคีกับเมียนมาร์ และมีแผนที่จะให้ความช่วยเหลือด้านการพัฒนาแก่เมียนมาร์มากขึ้นในอนาคต โดยได้เปิดสำนักงาน EU ที่เมืองย่างกุ้งเมื่อเดือนเมษายน 2555 มีหน้าที่ดูแลโครงการความช่วยเหลือของ EU แก่เมียนมาร์
