เปิดทำการเรียนการสอนเฉพาะชั้นมัธยมศึกษาตอนต้นครั้งแรกเมื่อวันที่ 17 พฤษภาคม 2514 และเปิดสอนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาตอนปลายเมื่อปี 2521 ได้รับรางวัลพระราชทานให้เป็นโรงเรียนขนาดใหญ่ของเขตการศึกษา 11 เมื่อปี 2535 โรงเรียนได้รับการสนับสนุนงบประมาณและได้ก่อสร้างอาคารใหม่ขึ้นเรื่อยๆจนเป็นโรงเรียนมาตรฐานสากล
