พระบรมธาตุเจดีย์กาญจนาภิเษก ที่ยอดเจดีย์ บรรจุพระบรมสารีริกธาตุ จากประเทศศรีลังกา ที่ได้รับพระราชทานจากพระบาท สมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวภูมิพลอดุลยเดช ซึ่งกระทรวงกลาโหม พร้อมด้วยส่วนราชการ พลเรือน และประชาชนชาวไทย ได้ร่วมจัดสร้างน้อมเกล้าถวาย เพื่อเป็นการเฉลิมฉลองสิริราชสมบัติครบ 50 ปี ในปี พ.ศ.2539 และเฉลิมพระเกียรติเนื่องใน วโรกาสมหามงคล เฉลิมพระชนพรรษา 6 รอบ ในวันที่ 5 ธันวาคม 2542 โดยสมเด็จพระนางเจ้าฯ พระบรมราชินีนาถ เสด็จพระราชดำเนิน และทรงประกอบพิธีเปิด เมื่อวันที่ 7 กุมภาพันธ์ 2543พระบรมธาตุเจดีย์กาญจนาภิเษก ออกแบบ ให้มีเอกลักษณ์ ศิลปพุทธสถานทางภาคเหนือ และเป็นสถาบัตยกรรม สมัยสุโขทัย และรัตนโกสินทร์ ประยุกต์ ที่ผนังของฐานด้านล่าง เป็นแบบย่อมุม ไม้สิบสอง ซึ่งมีการใช้ตั้งแต่สมัยอยุธยา ฐานชั้นบน มีผนังเป็น 8 เหลี่ยม เป็นลักษณะที่มีการใช้ตั้งแต่ สมัยทวารวดี บริเวณเหนือซุ้มคูหา ตอนบนของ องค์เจดีย์ เป็บกลีบบัวรับองค์ ระฆังทรงกลม แบบสมัย อยุธยา ถัดขึ้นไปตอนบนเป็นบัลลังค์รับบัวกลุ่ม 5 ชั้น ทางคติมีความหายถึงพระเจ้า 5 พระองค์
