มัสยิดกลางจังหวัดปัตตานี ตั้งอยู่ถนนยะรัง ตำบลอาเนาะรู อำเภอเมืองปัตตานี เลขทะเบียนที่ 249 มีประวัติและความเป็นมาดังนี้ในปีพุทธศักราช 2497 รัฐบาลได้ตระหนักถึงความสำคัญของศาสนาอิสลามว่าเป็นศาสนาที่ประชาชนชาวปัตตานีส่วนใหญ่นับถืออย่างเคร่งครัดอันจะนำมาซึ่งสันติสุข ประกอบกับในพื้นที่สี่จังหวัดชายแดนภาคใต้ มีประชากรนับถือศาสนาอิสลาม (มุสลิม) เป็นจำนวนมาก สมควรสร้างมัสยิดกลางที่มีขนาดใหญ่ และสวยงามขึ้นเพื่อเป็นศรีสง่าแก่ชาวไทยผู้นับถือศาสนาอิสลามทั่วประเทศตลอดจนเป็นสถานที่ประกอบศาสนกิจ ของชาวไทยมุสลิม จึงได้พิจารณาพื้นที่บริเวณริมถนนหลวงสายปัตตานี-ยะลา ตำบลอาเนาะรู อำเภอเมืองปัตตานี เนื้อที่ประมาณ 3 ไร่ 55 ตารางวา คณะรัฐมนตรีจึงได้อนุมัติงบประมาณสำหรับการก่อสร้างมัสยิดกลางปัตตานีขึ้น โดย ฯพณฯ พลตำรวจเอก เผ่า ศรียานนท์ รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงมหาดไทยในสมัยนั้นได้เดินทางมาวางศิลาฤกษ์ เมื่อวันที่ 6 กรกฎาคม พ.ศ.2500 เวลา 10.00 น. มัสยิดกลางแห่งนี้ใช้เวลาในการก่อสร้างและตกแต่งอย่างวิจิตรพิสดารเป็นเวลา 9 ปีกว่าจะแล้วเสร็จ ต่อมาเมื่อวันที่ 25 พฤษภาคม 2506 ฯพณฯ จอมพลสฤษดิ์ ธนะรัชต์ นายกรัฐมนตรีในสมัยนั้นได้เดินทางมาประกอบพิธีเปิดอย่างเป็นทางการและมอบมัสยิดแห่งนี้ให้แก่ชาวไทยมุสลิมจังหวัดปัตตานี โดยให้ตั้งชื่อว่า “มัสยิดกลางจังหวัดปัตตานี”
