ในการจัดการทดสอบการศึกษาขั้นพื้นฐาน (Ordinary National Educational Test: O-Net) ในทุกๆปีนั้น ผลที่ออกมามักจะเป็นไปในทิศทางเดียวกันในทุกๆปี นั่นก็คือ เด็กไทยมีความรู้ต่ำกว่ามาตรฐานอยู่เสมอๆ หรือแม้แต่การศึกษาขององค์การความร่วมมือทางเศรษฐกิจและการพัฒนา (Organization for Economics Co-operation and Development, OECD) ที่รู้กันในชื่อของ PISA (Programme for International Students Assessment) พบว่านักเรียนไทยที่จัดได้ว่ามีความรู้วิทยาศาสตร์อยู่ในระดับสูงมีเพียง 1% เท่านั้นเอง ทั้งๆที่เราใช้เวลาในการเรียนการสอนมากกว่า 8 ชม. ต่อวัน
