4. Conclusions and outlook
Energy yield calculation for non-concentrating (i.e., 1-Sun) tandem solar cells is significantly different from that of single-junction or concentrated PV (CPV) multijunction solar cells. Both spectral composition and irradiance level should be taken into account. In this paper, we outlined a framework and methodology for systematically evaluating the outdoor performance of 1-Sun tandem solar cells by calculating energy yield and harvesting efficiency losses. We investigated the impact of different illumination inputs, and showed how different temporal resolutions and different ways of obtaining input spectra (simulated with SMARTS or measured) impact the accuracy and uncertainty of the calculated outdoor losses and energy yields.
