สมเด็จพรระสรรเพชญ์ที่ 8 หรือสมเด็จพ
สมเด็จพรระสรรเพชญ์ที่ 8 หรือสมเด็จพระเจ้าเสือ (สมเด็จพระพุทธเจ้าเสือ) ราชวงศ์บ้านพลูหลวง พระองค์ที่ 2 ทรงเป็นพระมหากษัตริย์พระองค์ที่ 29 แห่งกรุงศรีอยุธยา โอรสสมเด็จพระเพทราชา กับนางกุลธิดา (ราชธิดาพระเจ้าเชียงใหม่) พระราชสมภพปีขาล พ.ศ. 2205 พระสมญานามว่า “เสือ” เนื่องมาจากพระราชสมภพปีขาล ซึ่งแปลว่าเสือ บางท่านกล่าวว่าเป็นเพราะพระองค์มีพระนิสัยดุ จากพระราชประวัติ น่าจะหมายถึงทรงมีความเด็ดขาดในการมีรับสั่งให้ผู้ที่ปฏิบัติงานใดก็แล้วแต่ ทำงานแล้วจะต้องสำเร็จผลเป็นอย่างดี ราชาภิเษก พ.ศ.2246 ทรงมีพระราชโอรส 2 พระองค์ คือเจ้าฟ้าเพชร (สมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวท้ายสระ) และเจ้าฟ้าพร (สมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวบรมโกศ)
สมัยสมเด็จพระเพทราชา (พ.ศ. 2231 - 2246) หลวงสรศักดิ์ให้รับสถาปนาเป็นพระมหาอุปราช กรมพระราชวังบวรสถานมงคล และได้ขึ้นครองราชย์สมบัติต่อจากพระเพทราชาพระนาม “สมเด็จพระสรรเพชญ์ที่ 8” สมเด็จพระเจ้าเสือ พระนามเดิม “เดื่อ” สืบเนื่องมาจากพระมารดาและสมเด็จพระเพทราชา(จางวาง-กรมช้าง) ตามเสด็จสมเด็จพระนารายณ์มหาราชขึ้นไป นมัสการพระพุทธชินราชและพระพุทธชินสีห์ วัดพระศรี-มหาธาตุ เมืองพิษณุโลก กระบวนเสด็จพระราชดำเนินถึงตำบลโพธิ์ประทับช้าง (เดิมชื่ออะไรไม่ปรากฏ) เมืองพิจิตร พระมารดาเจ็บครรภ์คลอดพระองค์ใกล้ต้นโพธิ์ใหญ่ ซึ่งมีต้นมะเดื่อใหญ่อยู่ใกล้กัน และได้นำรกไปฝังไว้ระหว่างต้นโพธิ์กับต้นมะเดื่อเสร็จแล้วกระบวนเสด็จพระราชดำเนินทางต่อไปจนถึงเมืองพิษณุโลก
สมัยสมเด็จพระเจ้าเสือบ้านเมืองสงบสุขไม่มีศัตรูมารุกราน แม้พระองค์โปรดการเสด็จประพาสไปในที่ต่าง ๆ ทั้งทางบกทางน้ำเป็นส่วนใหญ่ไม่ค่อยได้ประทับในพระราชวัง แต่ก็ไม่มีผู้ใดคิดร้าย เนื่องจากเกรงอำนาจบารมีของพระองค์ โปรดการคล้องช้างป่าเพื่อนำมาใช้ในราชการ โปรดการทรงเบ็ดตกปลา ล่าสัตว์ และโปรดการชกมวยอย่างยิ่ง ทรงปลอมพระองค์เป็นสามัญชนนักมวยชาวกรุงผู้มีฝีมือเป็นเลิศเสด็จไปตามสนามมวยต่าง ๆ เพื่อเปรียบมวยชกและทรงชนะทุกครั้งหาผู้ใดเปรียบฝีพระหัตถ์ได้ไม่ หลังการชกมวยพระองค์และทหารจะเสด็จเที่ยวชมงานเยี่ยงสามัญชนโดยไม่มีผู้ใดรู้ว่าพระองค์คือ กษัตริย์
พระราชกรณียกิจในด้านต่าง ๆ
ด้านศาสนา
1. ทรงปฏิสังขรณ์มณฑปสวมรอยพระพุทธบาทสระบุรี สร้างมาแต่ครั้งสมเด็จพระเจ้าทรงธรรม ซึ่งทำเป็นยอดเดียวชำรุด โปรดฯ ให้สร้างใหม่เป็น 5 ยอด รวมทั้งปฏิสังขรณ์ทั่วทั้งอาราม
2. ปี พ.ศ. 2249 เกิดอัสนีบาตต้องยอดมณฑปพระมงคลบพิตร เครื่องบนมณฑป ทรุดโทรมพังลงมาต้องพระศอพระมงคลบพิตรหัก โปรดฯ ให้รื้อเครื่องบนออก ก่อสร้างใหม่แปลงเป็นมหาวิหาร
3. ทรงเป็นพระมหากษัตริย์พระองค์แรกที่เสด็จพระราชดำเนินไปมนัสการพระพุทธฉายและสันนิษฐานว่าค้นพบในสมัยพระองค์
4. พระราชกรณียกิจที่สำคัญอันเกี่ยวเนื่องเมืองพิจิตร เพื่อเป็นการรำลึกถึงชาติภูมิของพระองค์สมเด็จพระเจ้าเสือได้โปรดให้สร้างวัดโพธิ์ประทับช้างขึ้นที่เมืองพิจิตร โดยสร้างพระอุโบสถ พระวิหาร พระมหาเจดีย์ ศาลาการเปรียญ และกุฏิสงฆ์ มีอาณาบริเวณวัดกว้างขว้างใหญ่โต ใช้เวลาสร้าง 2 ปี จึงสำเร็จ เสด็จพระราชดำเนินมาทำการฉลองด้วยพระองค์เอง มีการฉลอง สามวันสามคืน มีมหรสพครึกครื้น และมีผู้คนมากมายมาฝ้าทูลละอองธุลีพระบาทและดูมหรสพ ฉลองเสร็จแล้วทรงพระราชอุทิศถวายเลขข้าพระไว้สำหรับอุปฐากพระอารามถึง 200 ครัวเรือน นับว่าครั้งนั้นวัดโพธิ์ประทับช้างเป็นวัดที่เด่นที่สุดในเมืองพิจิตร สมเด็จพระเจ้าเสือทรงเลื่อมใสในพระพุทธศาสนามาก
ด้านคมนาคม
1. ทรงให้มีการตัดถนนข้ามบึงหูกวางที่เมืองนครสวรรค์
2. ทรงให้ขุดคลองโคกขาม ซึ่งคดเคี้ยวให้ตรงหลังจากเหตุการณ์หัวเรือพระที่นั่งหักและพระองค์ต้องมีรับสั่งให้ประหารชีวิตพันท้ายนรสิงห์ตามราชประเพณี
3. ทรงให้มีการปรับปรุงเส้นทางทางไปพระพุทธบาทสระบุรี ให้เดินทางมาสะดวกยิ่งขึ้น สมเด็จพระเจ้าเสือเสด็จอยู่ในตำแหน่งที่พระมหาอุปราช กรมพระราชวังบวรสถานมาตั้งแต่ ปี พ.ศ. 2231 – 2246 เป็นเวลา 5 ปี เสด็จอยู่ในพระราชสมบัติ พ.ศ. 2246 – 2252 เป็นเวลา 7 ปี รวมการบริหารราชการแผ่นดินทั้งตำแหน่งรองพระมหากษัตริย์ และทรงเป็นพระมหากษัตริย์ได้ 22 ปี พระชนมายุจนถึงสวรรคต 47 พรรษา
ปัจจุบัน สมเด็จพรระสรรเพชญ์ที่ 8 หรือสมเด็จพระเจ้าเสือ ได้ประดิษฐานอยู่ ณ หน้าที่ว่าการอำเภอโพธิ์ประทับช้าง จังหวัดพิจิตร
