การชัก (Convulsion) คือ การที่ร่างกายของบุคคลมีอาการสั่นเกร็งขึ้นอย่างรวดเร็ว อาจกระตุก คือมีเกร็งสลับกับผ่อนคลายเป็นจังหวะ

5. อยู่กับผู้ป่วยคนกว่าผู้ป่วยจะหยุดชัก หรือจนกว่าจะมีบุคลากรทางการแพทย์มาช่วยเหลือ โดยอาจช่วยจับชีพจร และดูการหายใจไปด้วย

ข้อควรระวัง ห้ามทำสิ่งต่อไปนี้ในผู้ป่วยชัก

1. ห้ามผูกตรึง (Restrain) ผู้ป่วย
2. ห้ามนำวัตถุใดๆรวมถึงนิ้วมือของผู้ช่วยเหลือใส่ในปากของผู้ป่วยระหว่างฟันบนและล่าง เนื่องจากไม่ได้ช่วยเหลืออะไร
