วันเด็กแห่งชาติ ในประเทศไทย ตรงกับวันเสาร์ที่สองของเดือนมกราคมของทุกปี เป็นวันหยุดราชการที่มิได้ชดเชยในวันทำงานถัดไป มีการให้คำขวัญวันเด็กทุกปีโดยนายกรัฐมนตรีไทย เริ่มต้นจัดงานวันเด็กครั้งแรกเมื่อวันที่ 3 ตุลาคม พ.ศ. 2498 โดยได้กำหนดให้วันจันทร์แรกของเดือนตุลาคม เป็นวันเด็กแห่งชาติ จนกระทั่งในปี พ.ศ. 2506 ได้มีมติเปลี่ยนแปลงวันเด็กแห่งชาติมาเป็นวันเสาร์ที่สองของเดือนมกราคม โดยเริ่มจัดงานวันเด็กในปี พ.ศ. 2508 เป็นต้นมาญทั้งหลาย โดยวิธีตัดต่อ Hallow + Eve = Halloween คำว่า Hallow เป็นคำแองโกลแซกซัน แปลว่า ทำให้ศักดิ์สิทธิ์ ตรงกับภาษาเยอรมันว่า heiligen ในปัจจุบันนิยมใช้คำมาจากภาษาละตินว่า sanctify คำว่า Hallow ยังมีใช้ในบทสวดอธิษฐานเก่า ๆ เช่น Hallowed be thy Name (ขอพระนามจงเป็นที่สักการะ)
