กรมศิลปากรจึงได้สร้างพิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติ เจ้าสามพระยา ขึ้นเพื่อเก็บรักษาจัดแสดงโบราณวัตถุที่พบจากกรุพระปรางค์วัดราชบูรณะ และโบราณวัตถุที่พบในจังหวัดพระนครศรีอยุธยา อาคารก่อสร้างด้วยเงินบริจาคจากประชาชน ซึ่งผู้บริจาคได้รับพระพิมพ์ที่พบจากกรุพระปรางค์วัดราชบูรณะเป็นการสมนาคุณ ทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ ให้อัญเชิญพระนามสมเด็จพระบรมราชาธิราชที่ 2 (เจ้าสามพระยา) ผู้ทรงสร้างพระปรางค์วัดราชบูรณะเป็นนามพิพิธภัณฑ์
