หลีเป๊ะเพี้ยนมาจากคำภาษามลายู “นิปิส” แปลว่า “บาง” เป็นชื่อเกาะเล็ก ๆ อยู่ห่างจากเกาะอาดังไปทางทิศใต้ราว 1 กิโลเมตร มีขนาดเล็กกว่าเกาะอาดังประมาณหนึ่งเท่า แต่เป็นเกาะที่มีความสำคัญ เนื่องจากลักษณะของเกาะเป็นที่ราบทั่วไป ส่วนที่เป็นภูเขามีเพียงเล็กน้อย เกาะนี้จึงมีผู้คนอาศัยกว่าหนึ่งพันคนเป็นชาวเกาะหรือชาวพื้นเมืองเดิมรู้จักกันในชื่อ “ชาวเล” หรือ “ชาวน้ำ” นั่นเอง มีโรงเรียนตั้งอยู่บนเกาะแห่งนี้ เปิดสอนตั้งแต่ชั้นอนุบาลถึงมัธยมปีที่ 3 ชื่อโรงเรียนว่า “โรงเรียนบ้านเกาะอาดัง” ชื่อของโรงเรียนจึงไม่สอดคล้องกับชื่อเกาะ
