ในปัจจุบันมีการพัฒนาอสังหาริมทรัพย์ ในรูปแบบของการก่อสร้างที่พักอาศัย เช่น หมู่บ้านจัดสรร คอนโดมิเนียมขนาดเล็ก และ ขนาดใหญ่ รวมไปถึงการรับก่อสร้างบ้านตามความต้องการบนเนื้อที่ของเจ้าของบ้านเอง เพื่อตอบสนองความต้องการของผู้บริโภคและเรื่องของความรวดเร็วในการก่อสร้างรวมถึงต้นทุนในการก่อสร้าง และเพื่อให้เหมาะสมกับราคาที่ผู้บริโภคแต่ละกลุ่มที่มีกำลังการซื้อที่ไม่เท่ากัน จึงได้มีการคิดค้นวิธีการก่อสร้างระบบสำเร็จรูปออกมาในหลายรูปแบบ เช่น ระบบโครงสร้างคาน เสาสำเร็จรูป (skeleton system) ระบบโครงสร้างแผ่นคอนกรีตสำเร็จรูป ระบบโครงสร้างผนังรับน้ำหนักเทกับที่ร่วมกับพื้นสำเร็จ และระบบโครงสร้างอาคารที่หล่อด้วยแบบหล่อ แบบอุโมงค์ (tunnel form)

การศึกษาครั้งนี้ได้นำข้อมูลต้นทุน ระยะเวลาการก่อสร้าง ในส่วนของโครงสร้าง และผนัง ของบ้านทาวน์โฮมขนาด 3 ชั้น และ 3.5 ชั้นที่ก่อสร้างด้วยระบบสำเร็จรูป มาเปรียบเทียบกับบ้านทาวน์โฮมขนาด 2 ชั้น บ้านเดี่ยว 3 ชั้น และ อาคารสำนักงาน 3 ชั้น ที่ก่อสร้างด้วยระบบอาคารแบบปกติ พร้อมทั้งทดลองสร้างโมเดลเพื่อวิเคราะห์น้ำหนักอาคารที่กระทำลงสู่ฐานราก และศึกษางานวิจัยด้านการสูญเสีย กับความแข็งแรงของจุดต่อโครงสร้างอีกด้วย

ผลการวิจัยพบว่า ข้อดีของระบบสำเร็จรูป คือ มีการก่อสร้างที่รวดเร็ว ประหยัดแรงงานเพราะกระบวนการผลิตจะดำเนินการในโรงงาน แล้วขนส่งมาติดตั้งที่หน้างาน อีกทั้งยังลดมลภาวะทางฝุ่น ควัน เสียง และที่สำคัญคือการก่อสร้างด้วยระบบสำเร็จรูปนี้ ตัวโครงสร้างจะมีความแข็งแรงมากกว่า การก่อสร้างด้วยระบบปกติ แต่มีข้อเสีย คือมีน้ำหนัก และ ราคาที่สูงกว่าการก่อสร้างด้วยระบบปกติแบบเดิม
