นาย ประยูร อุลุชาฎะ เกิดเมื่อวันที่

นาย ประยูร อุลุชาฎะ เกิดเมื่อวันที่ 21 พฤศจิกายน พุทธศักราช 2471 ที่จังหวัดสมุทรปราการ เป็นศิลปินที่มีความสามารถเป็นพิเศษ ในด้านจิตรกรรมแบบเก่าและแบบใหม่ เป็นผู้บุกเบิกจิตรกรรมแบบใหม่และอนุรักษ์จิตรกรรมแบบเก่า เป็นทั้งศิลปินและนักวิชาการ ได้สร้างสรรค์ผลงานศิลปะต่อเนื่อง ตลอดมาเป็นเวลามากกว่า 50 ปี ผลงานเป็นที่ยอมรับของวงการศิลปะและสถาบันศิลปะ มีผลงานในการแสดงศิลปกรรมแห่งชาติ การแสดงศิลปะสมัยใหม่และร่วมสมัยของไทยในต่างประเทศ และติดตั้งถาวรในพิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติ ได้รับรางวัลเกียรตินิยมอันดับ 1 เหรียญทอง จากการแสดงศิลปกรรมแห่งชาติ และได้รับปริญญาศิลปดุษฎีบัณฑิตกิตติมศักดิ์จากมหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร จากการอุทิศตนให้กับการสร้างสรรค์และอนุรักษ์ศิลปะเป็นเวลาอันยาวนาน คุณค่าของผลงานศิลปะและวิชาการของนายประยูร อุลุชาฎะ แสดงถึงความมีคุณธรรมและจริยธรรม จึงได้รับการยอมรับนับถือเป็นปูชนียบุคคลในวงการศิลปะและวิชาการ และในฐานะศิลปินคนสำคัญที่ยังสร้างสรรค์ และอุทิศตนให้กับสังคมในปัจจุบัน เป็นตัวอย่างที่ดีงามแก่อนุชนรุ่นหลัง

นาย ประยูร อุลุชาฎะ สนใจศิลปะตั้งแต่ยังเด็ก เมื่อสำเร็จการศึกษาในระดับมัธยมแล้ว ได้เข้าศึกษาที่โรงเรียนเพาะช่าง เมื่อ พ.ศ. 2486 รุ่นเดียวกับอังคาร กัลยาณพงศ์ ศิลปินแห่งชาติ และได้เข้าศึกษาต่อที่คณะจิตรกรรมและประติมากรรม มหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากรกับท่านศาสตราจารย์ศิลป์ พีระศรี และอาจารย์อื่นๆ เป็นเวลา 3 ปี ได้รับอนุปริญญาศิลปบัณฑิตด้านจิตรกรรมและประติมากรรม พ.ศ. 2492 หลังจากนั้นได้ศึกษาเพิ่มเติมในด้านจิตรกรรมกับท่านศาสตราจารย์ศิลป์อีก 2 ปี จนมีความรู้และความสามารถในทางทฤษฎีและปฏิบัติศิลปะเป็นอย่างดี สร้างสรรค์ผลงานด้านจิตรกรรมและงานวิชาการศิลปะเผยแพร่ต่อประชาชน หลังจากที่ได้ศึกษาวิชาศิลปะและวิชาช่างมาเป็นเวลา 8 ปี

หลัง จาก พ.ศ. 2495 เป็นต้นมา นายประยูร อุลุชาฎะ ได้เลือกแนวทางอิมเพรสชั่นนิสม์ในการสร้างสรรค์จิตรกรรมสีน้ำมัน สีน้ำ สีชอล์ก นอกจากนี้มีผลงานจิตรกรรมแบบประเพณี และแบบผสมผสานประเพณีกับแบบใหม่ ที่ทำในระยะหลังสุดนี้ คือจิตรกรรมสีน้ำซึ่งเป็นผู้มีความสามารถยอดเยี่ยมผู้หนึ่ง สามารถเขียนสีน้ำบางๆ สีสะอาด ให้ความงามหรือสุนทรียะเป็นอย่างมาก เป็นฝีมือชั้นครูที่ทำอยู่ตลอดเวลา และทำถึงขั้นสุดยอดของสีน้ำ นายประยูรฯ ได้กล่าวถึงเรื่องจิตรกรรมสีน้ำไว้ว่า “เมื่อ พ.ศ. 2511 ข้าพเจ้าเขียนรูปสีน้ำอีกครั้งหนึ่ง ด้วยเห็นว่าอุปกรณ์ต่างๆ ขนไปง่าย สะดวกดี ไม่ลำบากเหมือนเขียนสีน้ำมัน ข้าพเจ้าไปเขียนที่ด้านเกวียน ชายทะเล ลำน้ำเจ้าพระยา ฯลฯ งานเหล่านี่ได้จัดแสดงอย่างน้อย 20 ชิ้น ร่วมกับผู้อื่นที่พญาไทแกลเลอรี่ (บัดนี้ล้มไปแล้ว) การแสดงครั้งนั้นได้รับการกล่าวขวัญกันในด้านเทคนิคสีน้ำ ซึ่งข้าพเจ้าเขียนได้อย่างสมใจนึก ประจวบกับเป็นระยะที่ทุ่มเทให้การเขียนรูปอย่างจริงจัง”
