ประวัติความเป็นมาของการแห่เทียนพรรษา
ครั้งหนึ่งที่เมืองอุบลมีการแห่บั้งไฟที่วัดกลาง มีประชาชนไปดูเป็นจำนวนมาก ครั้งนั้นในขบวนแห่บั้งไปได้เกิดมีการทะเลาะวิวาทและถึงแก่ความตาย เสด็จในกรมได้พิจารณาถึงความสูญเสียอันยิ่งใหญ่ จึงสั่งการให้เลิกแห่บั้งไฟและเปลี่ยนเป็นการแห่เทียนแทน
พัฒนาขึ้น เมื่อประมาณปี พ.ศ. 2480 คือเป็นการหล่อเทียนออกจากแม่พิมพ์ที่มีลวดลายง่ายๆ หลายแบบ เช่น ตาอ้อย บัวคว่ำ กระจังก้ามปู และอื่นๆ แล้วนำไปติดที่ต้นเทียน ต่อมาก็มีบุคคลนำวิธีการดังกล่าวมาประยุกต์ใช้ รวมไปถึงการประดับประดาต้นเทียนด้วยลวดลายต่างๆ จนถึงขั้นจัดการประกวดและมีรางวัลสำหรับผู้ชนะเลิศอีกด้วย
ในช่วงปี พ.ศ. 2494 การทำเทียนและพิธีแห่เทียนพรรษาเริ่มได้ถูกเล็งเห็นความสำคัญ ทางจังหวัดจึงได้สนับสนุนให้งานเข้าพรรษาเป็นงานประจำปี
จนถึงปี พ.ศ. 2520 และนับจากนั้นเป็นต้นมา จังหวัดอุบลราชธานีได้จัดงานสัปดาห์แห่เทียนพรรษา ให้เป็นงานยิ่งใหญ่ มีการประกวดต่างๆ
กิจกรรมที่สำคัญในประเพณีแห่เทียนพรรษา

1. เยือนชุมชน ชมวิถีวัฒนธรรมการตกแต่งเทียน
