(1) ติดตาม ศึกษา ประมวล วิเคราะห์พัฒนาการและแนวโน้มเศรษฐกิจโลก เสนอแนะแนวทางในการดำเนินนโยบายเศรษฐกิจระหว่างประเทศด้านการเงิน การค้า การลงทุน เทคโนโลยีและการพัฒนา
(2) เสนอแนะนโยบาย และเข้าร่วมในการเจรจา ทำความตกลงและดำเนินการในกรอบความร่วมมือและความตกลงระหว่างประเทศทางเศรษฐกิจ
(3) ติดตาม ศึกษา ประมวล วิเคราะห์ ภาวะเศรษฐกิจของประเทศและต่างประเทศเพื่อเสนอแนะแนวทางในการส่งเสริมและ รักษาผลประโยชน์ทางด้านเศรษฐกิจของประเทศ
(4) ติดตาม รวบรวมและเผยแพร่ข้อมูลทางเศรษฐกิจและโอกาสทางการค้า การลงทุน ในต่างประเทศให้แก่ภาคเอกชนของไทย เพื่อส่งเสริมและรักษาผลประโยชน์ทางเศรฐกิจของภาคเอกชนของไทย
(5) ประสานกับหน่วยงานอื่น ๆ ที่เกี่ยวข้องทั้งภาครัฐและเอกชนในการดำเนินความสัมพันธ์ทางด้านเศรษฐกิจใน กรอบความร่วมมือและความตกลงทางเศรษฐกิจระหว่างประเทศ
(6) ปฏิบัติการอื่นใดตามที่กฎหมายกำหนดให้เป็นอำนาจหน้าที่ของกรมหรือตามที่กระทรวงหรือคณะรัฐมนตรีมอบหมาย
