วัดคูหาภิมุข เป็นวัดที่สำคัญและเก่าแก่วัดหนึ่งของจังหวัดยะลา ตั้งอยู่เลขที่ ๑๓๖ หมู่ที่ ๑ ตำบลหน้าถ้ำ อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดยะลา สังกัดคณะสงฆ์มหานิกาย มีที่ดินทั้งวัดเนื้อที่ ๕๒ ไร่เศษ ระยะทางห่างจากตัวเมืองยะลาไปตามถนนหลวงหมายเลข ๔๐๙ ประมาณ ๘ กิโลเมตร เดิมวัดนี้ชื่อ วัดหน้าถ้ำ ได้เปลี่ยนชื่อเป็นวัดคูหาภิมุขในสมัยจอมพลแปลก พิบูลสงคราม เป็นนายกรัฐมนตรี
วัดคูหาภิมุข เริ่มสร้างเมื่อปี พ.ศ. ๒๓๙๐ ในรัชกาลพระบาทสมเด็จพระจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว โปรดเกล้าฯ ให้นายเมือง บุตรพระยายะหริ่งมาเป็นพระยายะลา ให้มีราชทินนามว่า พระยาณรงค์ฤทธิ์ ศรีประเทศวิเศษวังษา มาตั้งที่ว่าราชการอยู่ที่บ้านท่าสาป ตำบลท่าสาป ริมแม่น้ำปัตตานี ซึ่งเป็นที่ อุดมสมบูรณ์เหมาะแก่การทำไร่นา ประกอบกับเจ้าเมืองยะลาคนนี้มีอัธยาศัยไมตรีดี ใจกว้างเป็นที่รักใคร่ นับถือทั้งของคนไทยมุสลิมและคนไทยพุทธ จึงได้มีราษฏรหัวเมืองใกล้เคียงชักชวนกันมาตั้งบ้านเรือน อยู่ด้วยกันมากในจำนวนนี้มีมามาจากเมืองยะหริ่ง ด้วยหลายสิบครัวเรือน โดยมีนายคง เพชรกล้า เป็นหัวหน้ามาตั้งบ้านเรือนอยู่ที่บ้านหน้าถ้ำ เมื่ออยู่นานเข้าก็เห็นความจำเป็นที่จะต้องสร้างวัดขี้น เพื่อประกอบพิธีบำเพ็ญกุศลในหมู่บ้าน จึงได้ขออนุญาตต่อพระยายะลา และได้สร้างวัดขึ้นที่ริมเขาหน้าถ้ำที่มีพระนอนแห่งนี้
ในปี พ.ศ. ๒๔๗๒ พระบาทสมเด็จพระปกเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัวพร้อมด้วยสมเด็จ พระนางเจ้า พระบรมราชินีนาถได้เสด็จมาประทับแรมที่วัดนี้ได้ทรงลงพระปรมาภิไธยย่อ ป.ป.ร. ไว้ที่ผาหินใน บริเวณวัด
