ไทยและพม่ามีกลไกความร่วมมือในกรอบคณะกรรมาธิการร่วมทางการค้าไทย-พม่า (Joint Trade Commission – JTC) ซึ่งรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงพาณิชย์ของทั้งสองประเทศเป็นประธานร่วม เพื่อส่งเสริมความสัมพันธ์และความร่วมมือทางการค้าระหว่างกัน โดยได้ประชุมครั้งที่ 4 เมื่อวันที่ 26 มกราคม 2547 ที่กรุงย่างกุ้ง
ไทยเป็นประเทศคู่ค้าอันดับ 1 ของพม่า โดยในปี 2548 มีมูลค่าการค้ารวม จำนวน 100,316.5 ล้านบาท (เพิ่มขึ้นจากปี 2547 ร้อยละ 27.2) โดยไทยนำเข้า 71,915.9 ล้านบาท และส่งออกไปพม่า 28,400.6 ล้านบาท ทำให้ไทยเสียเปรียบดุลการค้า 43,515.3 ล้านบาท (ส่วนหนึ่งมาจากค่าใช้จ่ายในการซื้อก๊าซธรรมชาติจากพม่า) สินค้าส่งออกที่สำคัญของไทย ได้แก่ ไขมันและน้ำมันจากพืชและสัตว์ เคมีภัณฑ์ เหล็ก เหล็กกล้าและผลิตภัณฑ์ และเม็ดพลาสติก สำหรับสินค้าที่ไทยนำเข้าจากพม่า ได้แก่ ก๊าซธรรมชาติ ไม้ซุง ไม้แปรรูป สินแร่โลหะอื่น ๆ และเศษโลหะ เหล็กและเหล็กกล้า และถ่านหิน
