ในการวิจัยครั้งนี้ ได้ทำการทดลองเปรียบเทียบวัสดุหลังคา 3 ชนิดในห้องจำลอง แบบที่1 หลังคากระเบื้องใยหินลอนคู่ แบบที่2 คือหลังคาไผ่คว่ำหงาย และแบบที่3 คือหลังคาไผ่สับฟากบนแผ่นอัดฝอยไม้ ระยะเวลาทดสอบ 90 วัน ผลที่ได้พบว่า หลังคาไผ่ที่ผ่านการรักษาเนื้อไม้ด้วยวิธีทาเคลือบด้วยชัน มีประสิทธิภาพในการกันมอดและรา และอุดรอยรั่วซึมในเนื้อไผ่ที่ปริแตก หรือเป็นรูจากแมลงเจาะอย่างได้ผล ข้อมูลด้านอุณหภูมิและความชื้นจากเครื่องมือตรวจวัดแบบ Hobo ภายในหลังคาจำลองทั้ง 3 หลัง พบว่าหลังคาไผ่คว่ำหงายซึ่งเป็นวัสดุมวลสารต่ำจะมีการรับและส่งผ่านความร้อนและความชื้นสูงกว่าหลังคากระเบื้องใยหินที่มีมวลสารปานกลางซึ่งค่าการนำและสะท้อนความร้อนต่ำ ทำให้เก็บสะสมความร้อนไม่มากและระบายความร้อนได้เร็ว เวลาในการหน่วงเหนี่ยวความร้อน(Time leg)น้อย แต่หลังคาไผ่สับฟากที่พร้อมแผ่นฝ้าที่มีคุณสมบัติเป็นฉนวน มีคุณสมบัติด้านอุณหภูมิและความชื้นทัดเทียมกับกระเบื้องซีเมนต์ใยหิน ทั้งยังคงอัตลักษณ์ของไผ่ได้อย่างดี
