ในทุกๆปี ภาคเหนือของประเทศไทยจะประสบกับปัญหาทางมลภาวะทางอากาศ นั่นคือปัญหาของหมอกควัน หมอกควันมีสาเหตุเกิดจากการเผาไหม้ ที่สำคัญคือ การเกิดไฟป่าจำนวนหลายครั้งทั้งภายในประเทศและจากประเทศเพื่อนบ้าน การเผาเศษวัสดุเหลือทิ้งทางเกษตรเพื่อเตรียมพื้นที่สำหรับการเพาะปลูกในช่วงฤดูฝนการเผาพื้นที่ การเผาขยะชุมชน และการก่อไฟให้ความอบอุ่น การเผาไหม้ เหล่านี้ทำให้เกิดปัญหาฝุ่นละอองขนาดเล็กและก๊าซอันตรายต่างๆในบรรยากาศได้ส่งผลกระทบต่อภาพลักษณ์ของภาคเหนือ ส่งผลต่อทัศนะ วิสัยในการมองเห็นและสุขภาพของประชาชนในพื้นที่ การศึกษาครั้งนี้เป็นการนำความรู้จากการเรียนโปรแกรม ArcGIS มาใช้ในการทำรายงานที่เกี่ยวกับฝุ่นละอองในอากาศ (PM10) วัตถุประสงค์ของการทำรายงานมีดังนี้ คือ 1) เพื่อที่จะดูความเปลี่ยนแปลงของค่าฝุ่นละอองในอากาศ 2) เพื่อนำข้อมูลของค่าฝุ่นละอองมาจำลองบนแผนที่ 3) เพื่อที่จะทำให้มีความง่ายต่อการเข้าใจ 4) เพื่อนำมาเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของการเรียนการสอนในสาขาวิชาภูมิสารสนเทศศาสตร์ GIS ซึ่งเกี่ยวกับการใช้โปรแกรม ArcGIS เป็นต้น
จากการศึกษาครั้งนี้เราจะเห็นว่าค่าของฝุ่นละอองจะเพิ่มขั้นในทุกๆเดือน และเพื่อให้ผู้คนทั่วไปได้เข้าใจในการดูค่าของฝุ่นละออง กลุ่มข้าพเจ้าจึงเลือกที่จะนำข้อมูลของฝุ่นละอองมาจำลองในรูปแบบของแผนที่ซึ่งเป็นวิธีการที่ทำให้ง่ายต่อการเข้าใจมากขึ้น
