ปี 2557-2558 ทำการคัดเลือกสายต้นมะขามเปรี้ยวเนื้อสีแดง โดยวิธีการขยายพันธุ์โดยการเสียบยอดและนำมาปลูก ณ ศูนย์วิจัยและพัฒนาการเกษตรพิจิตร พื้นที่จำนวน 1 ไร่ ได้ทั้งสิ้น 16 สายต้น จากแหล่งปลูก 4 จังหวัด ได้แก่ พิจิตร เพชรบูรณ์ สมุทรสาครและปราจีนบุรี จากการวิเคราะห์ปริมาณสารสำคัญในฝักมะขามเปรี้ยวเนื้อสีแดงในแต่ละแหล่งปลูก พบว่า มะขามเปรี้ยวเนื้อสีแดงจากแหล่งปลูกจากอำเภอเมือง จังหวัดพิจิตร ให้ปริมาณวิตามินซี 2.49 มิลลิกรัมต่อน้ำหนักเนื้อมะขาม 100 กรัม สูงกว่าพันธุ์มะขามเปรี้ยวทั่วไปร้อยละ 4.8 และแหล่งปลูกจากอำเภอสามง่าม จังหวัดพิจิตร พบว่า ให้ปริมาณแอนโธไซยานิน 433.36 มิลลิกรัมต่อเนื้อมะขาม 1 กิโลกรัม สูงกว่าพันธุ์มะขามเปรี้ยวทั่วไป 100 เปอร์เซ็นต์
