อุทยานประวัติศาสตร์ภูพระบาท ตั้งอยู่บริเวณเชิงเขาภูพาน ครอบคลุมพื้นที่ประมาณ 3,430 ไร่ ในเขตบ้านติ้ว ตำบลเมืองพาน อยู่ห่างจากตัวจังหวัดระยะทางประมาณ 67 กิโลเมตร ตามเส้นทางหมายเลข 2 เส้นอุดรธานี-หนองคาย ถึงบริเวณหลักกิโลเมตรที่ 13 แล้วเลี้ยวซ้ายเข้าทางหลวงหมายเลข 2021 ไปทางอำเภอบ้านผือ ระยะทางประมาณ 42 กิโลเมตร แยกขวาประมาณ 500 เมตร และตรงไปตามเส้นทางหมายเลข 2348 อีกประมาณ 12 กิโลเมตร มีแยกขวาเป็นทางเข้าไปประมาณ 2 กิโลเมตร

พระพุทธบาทบัวบก ตั้งอยู่บริเวณทางแยกซ้ายมือก่อนถึงที่ทำการอุทยานฯสร้างขึ้นระหว่าง พ.ศ. 2463-2477 คำว่า "บัวบก" เป็นชื่อของพันธุ์ไม้ชนิดหนึ่งที่เกิดขึ้นตามป่า มีหัว และใบคล้ายใบบัว ซึ่งชาวบ้านทั่วไปเรียกว่า ผักหนอก บัวบกนี้คงจะมีอยู่มากในบริเวณที่พบรอยพระพุทธบาท จึงเรียกรอยพระพุทธบาทนี้ว่า "พระพุทธบาทบัวบก" หรือคำว่าบัวบกอาจจะมาจากคำว่า บ่บก ซึ่งหมายถึง ไม่แห้งแล้ง รอยพระพุทธบาทมีลักษณะเป็นแอ่งลึกประมาณ 60 เซนติเมตร ลงไปในพื้นหินยาว 1.93 เมตร กว้าง 90 เซนติเมตร เดิมมีการก่อมณฑปครอบรอยพระพุทธบาทไว้ ต่อมาประมาณปี พ.ศ. 2465 พระอาจารย์ศรีทัตย์ สุวรรณมาโจ ได้รื้อมณฑปเก่าออกแล้วสร้างพระธาตุเจดีย์ขึ้นใหม่ และยังสร้างรอยพระพุทธบาทจำลองวางทับรอยพระพุทธบาทเดิมไว้ ภายในพระธาตุเจดีย์บรรจุพระบรมสารีริกธาตุ ตัวองค์เจดีย์เป็นทรงบัวเหลี่ยมคล้ายองค์พระธาตุพนม มีงานนมัสการพระพุทธบาทบัวบกในวันขึ้น 13-15 ค่ำ เดือน 3 ของทุกปี
