กลุ่มตัวอย่างที่ใช้ในการวิจัยครั้งนี้เป็นนักกีฬาไทย ที่เข้าร่วมรายการแข่งขันกีฬามหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏ กลุ่มภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ ครั้งที่ 38 ที่มหาวิทยาราชภัฏมหาสารคาม ระหว่างวันที่ 20 – 26 ธันวาคม 2557 กำหนดขนาดของกลุ่มตัวอย่างตามเงื่อนไขของการทดสอบความสัมพันธ์โครงสร้างเชิงเส้น คือ ขนาดของกลุ่มตัวอย่างขั้นต่ำคือ 20 เท่าของข้อคำถามในแบบสอบถาม (Tabachnick & Fidell, 1996) ดังนั้นกลุ่มตัวอย่างในการวิจัยครั้งนี้จึงเท่ากับ 320 คน ทำการสุ่มโดยแบบหลายขั้นตอน (Multistage Random Sampling) เพื่อให้ได้กลุ่มตัวอย่างที่มาจากหลากหลายชนิดกีฬา และครอบคลุมตามเพศ อายุ และภูมิลำเนาของนักกีฬา ซึ่งมีความเป็นตัวแทนที่ดีของประชากรนักกีฬาของไทย
