มหาวิทยาลัยเทคโนโลยีสุรนารีได้รับการประเมินคุณภาพการศึกษาจากสำนักงานคณะกรรมการการอุดมศึกษา ที่ 2.88 จากคะแนนเต็ม 3 ซึ่งอยู่ในระดับดีมาก และได่รับการประเมินคุณภาพภายนอกจาก สำนักงานรับรองมาตรฐานและประเมินคุณภาพการศึกษา ในกลุ่มการผลิตบัณฑิตและวิจัยในรอบการประเมินที่ 2 เท่ากับ 4.76 จากคะแนนเต็ม 5 อยู่ในระดับดีมาก

ในปี พ.ศ. 2553 มหาวิทยาลัยได้รับเลือกให้เป็น 1 ใน 9 มหาวิทยาลัยวิจัยแห่งชาติ ซึ่งจัดเป็นมหาวิทยาลัยที่มีอายุน้อยที่สุดที่ได้รับการรับเลือก ร่วมกับมหาวิทยาลัยชั้นนำที่มีชื่อเสียงเก่าแก่อื่น ๆ
