การวิจัยเรื่อง การพัฒนาแนวทางการฝึกเตรียมความพร้อมให้กับหน่วยที่จะเข้าปฏิบัติงานในพื้นที่จังหวัดชายแดนภาคใต้ มีวัตถุประสงค์ 1) เพื่อศึกษาสภาพปัญหาปัจจุบันที่พบในการฝึกเตรียมความพร้อมให้กับหน่วยที่จะเข้าปฏิบัติงานในพื้นที่ จังหวัดชายแดนภาคใต้ 2)เพื่อเสนอแนวทาง การฝึกเตรียมความพร้อมให้กับหน่วยที่จะเข้าปฏิบัติงานในพื้นที่จังหวัดชายแดนภาคใต้ ที่เหมาะสม และสอดคล้องกับสถานการณ์ในปัจจุบัน โดยใช้การวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ จากการคัดเลือกผู้ให้ข้อมูลสำคัญจำนวน 20 คน ด้วยวิธีคัดเลือกแบบเฉพาะเจาะจง (Purposive selection) และเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลโดยการสัมภาษณ์แบบเจาะลึก (In - depth interview) ด้วยแบบสัมภาษณ์ที่มีโครงสร้าง (Structured interview) และใช้เทคนิคการวิเคราะห์เนื้อหา (Content analysis) เพื่อวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลที่ได้
ผลการวิจัยพบว่า สภาพปัญหาปัจจุบันที่พบในการฝึกเตรียมความพร้อมให้กับหน่วยที่จะเข้าปฏิบัติงานในพื้นที่จังหวัดชายแดนภาคใต้ คือ การกำหนดแนวความคิดในการจัดการฝึกฯหลักทั้ง 5 ขั้นตอน ห้วงระยะเวลาในการฝึกฯ ขอบเขตวิชาในการฝึกฯ การดำเนินการฝึก การประเมินผลการฝึกฯ และสภาพแวดล้อมในการฝึก ยังขาดความต่อเนื่อง ขาดความสมจริง ไม่สอดคล้องและครอบคลุมในบางเรื่องทำให้ประสิทธิภาพในการฝึกลดลงส่งผลกระทบต่อการปฏิบัติงานจริงในพื้นที่ โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งในงานที่เกี่ยวกับ ความสามารถในการควบคุมพื้นที่และการรักษาความปลอดภัยที่มีประสิทธิภาพลดลงไปด้วย
สำหรับแนวทางในการพัฒนาการฝึกเตรียมความพร้อมให้กับหน่วยที่จะเข้าปฏิบัติในพื้นที่จังหวัดชายแดนภาคใต้ ในส่วนที่เกี่ยวข้องควรมีการปรับแนวความคิดในการจัดการฝึกฯหลักทั้ง 5 ขั้นตอน ซึ่งไม่สามารถจัดการฝึกได้ครบ เหลือเพียง 4 ขั้นตอน แยกการฝึกเรื่องการฝึกเตรียมความพร้อมฯออกต่างหากให้ถือว่าเป็นอีกหลักสูตรหนึ่ง มีการประเมินผลที่จริงจังและสอดคล้องกับภารกิจที่ปฏิบัติงานในพื้นที่ โดยนำแผนการปฏิบัติงานปัจจุบันกับบทเรียนจากการรบที่ผ่านมาเข้าไปในระบบของการฝึกอย่างต่อเนื่อง
