สารนิพนธ์เรื่องนี้ เป็นการวิจัยเอกสาร (Documentary Research) โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์ คือ ๑) เพื่อศึกษาประวัติความเป็นมาและความสำคัญของแนวคิดเกี่ยวกับพุทธศิลป์ในรอยพระพุทธบาท ๒) เพื่อวิเคราะห์แนวคิดเกี่ยวกับพุทธศิลป์ในรอยพระพุทธบาทตามแนวพุทธ จากการศึกษาวิจัยพบว่า
