ประวัติ
ศาสตราจารย์เกียรติคุณ นายแพทย์ สุด แสงวิเชียร เกิดเมื่อ 29 พฤศจิกายน พ.ศ. 2450 ที่อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดสมุทรปราการ เป็นบุตรของ ขุนแสงสุรพาณิชย์ (จันทร์ แสงวิเชียร) และ นางแสงสุรพาณิชย์ (ทรัพย์ แสงวิเชียร*2413 - 2512: 99 ปี) เป็นบุตรคนที่ 6 ของพี่น้อง 7 คน พี่ชาย 4 คน พี่สาว 1 คน น้องชาย 1 คน ท่านเสียชีวิตแล้วเมื่อ 8 มิถุนายน พ.ศ. 2538 เมื่ออายุได้ 88 ปี เป็นอาจารย์แพทย์ผู้สร้างความเจริญให้กายวิภาคศาสตร์ของศิริราช หนึ่งในคณะกรรมการฝ่ายแพทย์ ผู้ชันสูตรพระบรมศพ ผู้เขียนบันทึก เรื่อง "เมื่อข้าพเจ้าเข้าไปเกี่ยวข้องกับกรณีสวรรคต" : หลักฐานทางนิติวิทยาศาสตร์ ซึ่งเป็นเอกสารประวัติศาสตร์ที่ยืนยันว่าเป็นการลอบปลงพระชนม์

การศึกษา
การศึกษาเบื้องต้นกับบิดาของตน ศึกษาชั้นประถมปีที่ 1-3 มัธยมปีที่ 3 ที่โรงเรียนประจำจังหวัดสมุทรปราการ มัธยมปีที่ 4-8 ที่โรงเรียนสวนกุหลาบวิทยาลัย จากนั้น ในปี พ.ศ. 2469 เป็นนิสิตเตรียมแพทย์ปริญญารุ่น 2 (นิสิตแพทย์) ที่ปัจจุบันคือคณะแพทยศาสตร์ศิริราชพยาบาล มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล เรียนสำเร็จเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2473 ผลการเรียนยอดเยี่ยม จนได้รับทุนเรียนดีของพระยาอุเทนเทพโกสินทร (ประสาร บุรณศิริ) พ.ศ. 2473 ได้รับพระราชทานปริญญาเวชชบัณฑิตชั้นตรี หรือแพทยศาสตร์บัณฑิต เป็นแพทย์ศิริราช รุ่นที่ 36 (แพทย์ปริญญารุ่น 3) ได้รับรางวัลเหรียญเงินรองเยี่ยมตลอดหลักสูตร 4 ปี เหรียญทองแดงที่ 1 ในแผนกศัลยศาสตร์ และเหรียญทองแดงที่ 1 ในแผนกอายุรศาสตร์ นอกจากนี้ระหว่างเข้ารับราชการเป็นอาจารย์แผนกกายวิภาคศาสตร์ จุฬาฯ และได้รับทุนมูลนิธิร็อกกี้เฟลเลอร์ไปศึกษาต่อทางกายภาคศาสตร์ที่มหาวิทยาลัยมิชิแกน และมหาวิทยาลัยเคสเวสเทิร์นรีเซิร์ฟ สหรัฐอเมริกา ได้รับเงินทุนจากกองทุนพระมรดก ของสมเด็จพระเจ้าพี่ยาเธอ เจ้าฟ้ามหิดลอดุลยเดช กรมหลวงสงขลานครินทร์ และใน พ.ศ. 2506 ได้รับทุน WHO ไปศึกษาวิชามนุษยพันธุศาสตร์และวิจัยโครงกระดูกมนุษย์ก่อนประวัติศาสตร์ ที่ขุดพบในประเทศไทย ที่ University of Copenhagen ประเทศเดนมาร์ก

การทำงาน
เมื่อจบการศึกษาแล้ว พ.ศ. 2474 ท่านเข้ารับราชการเป็นอาจารย์แผนกกายวิภาคศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย และได้รับทุนมูลนิธิร็อกกี้เฟลเลอร์ไปศึกษาต่อทางกายวิภาคศาสตร์ที่สหรัฐอเมริกา และได้กลับมาเป็นอาจารย์ที่แผนกกายวิภาคศาสตร์ คณะแพทยศาสตร์ ระหว่าง พ.ศ. 2476-2513 ในระหว่างเหตุการณ์ "กรณีสวรรคต" นั้น ศ.นพ.สุด แสงวิเชียร ดำรงตำแหน่งหัวหน้าแผนกกายวิภาคศาสตร์ และได้เข้าร่วมเป็นแพทย์ผู้ชันสูตรพระบรมศพ ร่วมกับคณะแพทยศาสตร์ ศิริราช
ท่านได้ดำรงตำแหน่งคณบดีคนที่ 9 ของคณะแพทยศาสตร์ศิริราชพยาบาล มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล ระหว่างปี พ.ศ. 2511 - 2512 เมื่อเกษียณอายุแล้วก็ยังช่วยสอนที่นี่ทุกวันจนถึง พ.ศ. 2536 จนไปทำงานเฉพาะวันพุธ วันละ 4 ชั่วโมง จากปัญหาสุขภาพ จนเสียชีวิต และได้สั่งครอบครัวไว้ให้มอบร่างกายของท่านแก่ภาควิชากายวิภาคศาสตร์ ภายหลังบำเพ็ญกุศลแล้ว ปัจจุบันได้แขวนโครงกระดูกไว้ให้นิสิตนักศึกษาแพทย์ใช้ประกอบการศึกษาที่ตึกกายวิภาคศาสตร์
ท่านมีผลงานโดดเด่นทางด้านวิทยาเอ็มบริโอ ด้านจุลกายวิภาคศาสตร์ ด้านมหกายวิภาคศาสตร์ (การดองศพ) ท่านมีผลงานวิจัยมากกว่า 250 เรื่อง เป็นหัวหน้าแผนกที่สามารถทำให้แผนกกายวิภาคศาสตร์เจริญก้าวหน้า โดยเฉพาะงานด้านพิพิธภัณฑ์ เป็นผู้ก่อตั้งพิพิธภัณฑ์กายวิภาคศาสตร์คองดอน(เป็นเกียรติแก่ ศ.คองดอน) เมื่อ พ.ศ. 2491 ซึ่งเป็นพิพิธภัณฑ์แห่งเดียวในโลก ที่มีระบบประสาทและระบบหลอดเลือดแดงทั้งตัว
ศ.นพ.สุด เคยได้รับแต่งตั้งเป็นสมาชิกสภานิติบัญญัติแห่งชาติ ในปี พ.ศ. 2516[1]
