การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อศึกษาเพื่อศึกษาอัตลักษณ์และการสร้างพื้นที่ทางสังคมของกลุ่มเกย์และการปรับตัวของกลุ่มเกย์ในการดำรงชีวิตในปัจจุบันในรั้วมหาวิทยาลัยราภัฏนครศรีธรรมราช โดยมีผู้ให้ข้อมูลหลักที่ใช้ในการวิจัยคือนักศึกษามหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏนครศรีธรรมราช จำนวน 10 คน ใช้วิธีการสุ่มแบบเจาะจง
ผลการวิจัยพบว่า อัตลักษณ์และการสร้างพื้นที่ทางสังคมของกลุ่มเกย์ในรั่วมหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏนครศรีธรรมราช ซึ่งเกย์หลายๆ คน พยายามเปิดพื้นที่ทางเพื่อแสงตัวตน ถึงรูปแบบความจริงของชีวิตเกย์ รูปแบบของการใช้ชีวิตของกลุ่มเกย์ เพื่อที่จะป้องกันการถูกรุกรานและถูกเบียดขับทางสังคม จากมุมมองการเป็นบุคคลชายขอบ ถูกตีตรา และมองว่าเป็นรูปแบบการใช้ชีวิตแบบนี้เป็นสิ่งที่ผิด ดังนั้นกลุ่มเกย์จึงทำหน้าที่ทั้งเปิดเผยและปิดบังในเวลาเดียวกัน เมื่อ “เกย์” ถูกตีตราและถูกตราหน้าว่าเป็น “ความจริงที่ผิดปกติ” กลุ่มเกย์เหล่านี้จึงพยายามที่จะเสนอเพื่อต่อรองกับตนเองและกับสังคมเพื่อแสดงตัวตนให้เกิดการยอมรับในพื้นที่สาธารณะ
ในขณะเดียวกันก็มีการปรับตัวในการดำรงชีวิตในปัจจุบันซึ่งพบว่า กลุ่มเกย์ได้มีการปรับตัวในการดำเนินชีวิตทั้ง 3 ด้าน โดยด้านร่างกายจะมีการสนใจดูแลร่างกายและสรีระทุกส่วนกว่าปกติชอบความสะอาด ดูแลร่างกายเป็นประจำ ทำให้ร่างกายดูสะอาด เกลี้ยงเกลา หล่อเหล่า ใส่ใจในเรื่องความสวยความงามของผิวพรรณ ทำให้ผิวพรรณสดใส เปล่งปลั่ง เพื่อที่จะเป็นภาพลักษณ์ของกลุ่มเกย์ในทางที่ดีขั้น ด้านจิตใจมีการปรับตัวโดยการเรียนรู้ที่จะรู้จักตัวเราเองรู้จักปรับตัว ใช้ชีวิตให้เหมาะสม ไม่ประมาทในการใช้ชีวิต อีกทั้งเราต้องรู้จักการรักตัวเอง ไม่วางตัวโดดเด่นจนเกินความพอดี ให้เกียรติผู้อื่นเสมอ อีกทั้งรู้จักการะเทศะ และการวางตัวที่สำคัญก็จะเป็นคนดีของสังคม สุดท้ายคือการปรับตัวในด้านสังคม ภาระหน้าที่ที่ได้รับมอบหมายจากสังคมถือเป็นสิ่งที่สำคัญยิ่งที่กลุ่มเกย์เหล่านี้ให้ความสำคัญเป็นอย่างมาก โดยจะทำหน้าที่ตรงนั้นอย่างเต็มที่ เต็มความสามารถ ถูกต้อง ปฏิบัติหน้าที่อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพโดยมีความเที่ยงธรรม มีความจริงใจ เคารพสิทธิซึ่งกันและกัน และจะพยายามตั้งใจทำงานเหล่านั้นที่ได้รับมอบหมายของมาในลักษณะ ที่ดูดี สวยงาม สะดุดตาให้มากที่สุด เพื่อที่จะให้สังคมและมีการดำเนินชีวิตต่อไปในสังคมได้อย่างมีความสุข
