ปัจจุบัน ประเพณีวิ่งควายในเขตเทศบาลเมืองชลบุรี จะจัดในวันขึ้น 14 คํ่า เดือน 11 อําเภอบ้านบึง จัดในวันขึ้น 15 คํ่า เดือน 11 ตลาดหนองเขิน อําเภอบ้านบึง จัดในวันแรม 1 คํ่า เดือน 11 วัดดอนกลาง ตําบลแสนสุข อําเภอเมือง จัดวิ่งควายในวันทอดกฐินประจําปีของวัด

แม้ปัจจุบัน เกษตรกรส่วนใหญ่ในประเทศจะหันมาใช้เครื่องจักรกลหรือที่เรียกว่าควายเหล็กช่วยผ่อนแรงในการทํานาแล้วก็ตาม แต่ชาวชลบุรีก้ยังคงอนุรักษ์ประเพณีท้องถิ่นอันแปลกนี้อยู่ เพราะนอกจากจะเป็นเอกลักษณ์ของจังหวัดแล้ว ยังเป็นเครื่องแสดงถึงความสามัคคีของชาวชลบุรีอีกด้วย
