While culture may influence a variety of organizational behaviors (Hofstede, 1991), the impact of professional status on these variables also deserves attention because obtaining the necessary qualifications to practice a profession requires a significant commitment of time and resources. The question of how this initial commitment impacts subsequent organizational behavior is worthy of study. In addition, social and professional identity is reflected in a person’s organizational self esteem (Gardner and Pierce, 1998) which in turn impacts a variety of organizational behaviors.
