กระทรวงคมนาคมได้ข้อสรุปประชุมร่วมไทย-จีน ครั้งที่ 1 คือ เริ่มก่อสร้างโครงการรถไฟทางคู่ กรุงเทพฯ-แก่งคอย และหนองคาย-มาบตาพุด ระยะทางรวม 873 กิโลเมตร ปลายปีนี้ และจะแล้วเสร็จภายในเวลา 2 ปีครึ่ง เปิดใช้บริการได้ปลายปี 2560



ส่วนแผนการดำเนินงานก่อสร้างงานโยธาจะแบ่งออกเป็น 4 ช่วง เพื่อความสะดวกรวดเร็วในการสำรวจและออกแบบ มีดังนี้ คือ

ช่วงที่ 1 กรุงเทพฯ-แก่งคอย ระยะทาง 133 กิโลเมตร

ช่วงที่ 2 แก่งคอย-มาบตาพุด ระยะทาง 246.5 กิโลเมตร

ช่วงที่ 3 แก่งคอย-นครราชสีมา ระยะทาง 138.5 กิโลเมตร

ช่วงที่ 4 นครราชสีมา-หนองคาย ระยะทาง 355 กิโลเมตร
