สำหรับการประชุมสุดยอดผู้นำอาเซียน ระหว่างวันที่ 6 – 8 กันยายน 2559 ที่รัฐบาลลาวในฐานะประธานอาเซียนจะเป็นเจ้าภาพจัดการประชุมในปีนี้นั้น นายกรัฐมนตรีได้แสดงความพร้อมที่จะเข้าร่วมและสนับสนุนฝ่ายลาวอย่างเต็มที่เพื่อให้การประชุมดังกล่าวเสร็จสิ้นอย่างสมบูรณ์แบบ โดยเฉพาะในประเด็นที่ลาวให้ความสำคัญ 8 ประเด็น ที่จะช่วยผลักดันแนวคิด "Turning Vision into Reality for a Dynamic ASEAN" โดยที่ฝ่ายลาวเองได้ยืนยันการเข้าร่วมและสนับสนุนการจัดประชุม ACD ครั้งที่ 2 ที่ไทยจะเป็นเจ้าภาพในเดือนตุลาคมนี้ และได้มีการติดตามตามผลการเยือนไทยของของนายทองลุน สีสุลิด นายกรัฐมนตรีแห่ง สปป.ลาว ในด้านต่าง ๆ ดังนี้

ด้านการค้าการลงทุน นายกรัฐมนตรีได้ขอให้รัฐบาลลาวช่วยดูแลนักลงทุนไทยที่เข้าไปลงทุนยัง สปป.ลาว โดยเฉพาะการให้ความเข้าใจเกี่ยวกับกฎระเบียบและอำนวยความสะดวก ซึ่งทางฝ่ายลาวเองพร้อมสนับสนุนไทยเพื่อให้เป็นนักลงทุนอันดับ 1 ในลาว เช่นกัน โดยที่ไทยพร้อมแลกเปลี่ยนประสบการณ์เกี่ยวกับการอำนวยความสะดวกให้แก่นักลงทุนต่างชาติ การจัดตั้งศูนย์ One stop service และระบบ E-government ซึ่งจะช่วยสร้างความมั่นใจให้แก่นักลงทุนต่างชาติมากขึ้น

ด้านความร่วมมือด้านพลังงาน สองฝ่ายยินดีที่มีการเพิ่มพูนความเชื่อมโยงด้านพลังงานไฟฟ้าไทย – ลาว โดยไทยจะขยายการรับซื้อพลังงานไฟฟ้าภายใต้กรอบ MOU ว่าด้วยความร่วมมือด้านการพัฒนาไฟฟ้าในลาว ซึ่งสอดคล้องกับนโยบาย "แบตเตอรี่แห่งเอเชีย” ที่สำคัญของลาว จึงขอให้หน่วยงานของทั้งสองฝ่ายเจรจาและหารือให้มีความคืบหน้าและเสร็จสิ้นโดยเร็ว

สำหรับความร่วมมือด้านแรงงาน นายกรัฐมนตรีย้ำว่า รัฐบาลให้ความสำคัญกับการบริหารจัดการแรงงานลาวที่เข้ามาทำงานในประเทศไทยอย่างเป็นระบบ โดยขอให้ฝ่ายลาวพิจารณา การจดทะเบียนพิสูจน์สัญชาติมาจากทางฝั่งลาว เพื่อช่วยลดขั้นตอนการดำเนินการในไทย และเพื่อให้แรงงานลาวที่เข้ามาทำงานอย่างถูกต้องได้รับความคุ้มครองตามกฎหมาย ซึ่งทางฝ่ายลาวเห็นว่ามีประโยชน์ต่อแรงงานลาวและจะนำไปเสนอต่อหน่วยงานที่เกี่ยวข้องต่อไป
