ครั้นรัชสมัยของพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว เสด็จประพาสมายังเพชรบุรี จึงได้ทรงมีพระราชประสงค์ให้จัดสร้างอารามขึ้นภายในถ้ำเขาหลวง เพื่อถวายเป็นพระราชกุศลแด่พระชนก โดยทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ ให้สร้างพระพุทธรูปเพิ่มเติม ซึ่งในหมู่พระพุทธรูปสร้างใหม่นี้ มีอยู่รูปหนึ่งที่ทรงโปรดฯ ให้ประทับตรา ประจำรัชกาลที่ 1-5 ไว้ที่ฐานพระด้วย
