ปัจจุบันประเทศไทยมีผู้ประกอบการเหมืองแร่หิน ที่ได้ประทานบัตร 400 ราย โดยมีแหล่งหินรวม 321 แหล่ง ปริมาณสำรองหินรวม 8,000 ล้านตัน แต่สามารถผลิตได้จริงเพียง 3,000 ล้านตัน ปีที่ผ่านมาผลิตจริงได้เพียง 180 ล้านตัน แต่ผลจากความต้องการที่เพิ่มขึ้น เชื่อว่าผู้ประกอบการก็ได้ผลิตเพิ่มขึ้น จนบางรายเต็มกำลังการผลิตแล้ว
