สารัช อยู่เย็น ชื่อเล่นว่า ตัง เกิดเมื่อวันที่ 30 พฤษภาคม พ.ศ. 2535 ที่จังหวัดสมุทรปราการ เริ่มเข้าเรียนชั้นอนุบาลที่โรงเรียนอนุบาลเจริญพงษ์ จ.สมุทรปราการ ก่อนที่จะย้ายเข้าไปเรียนที่โรงเรียนอัสสัมชัญสมุทรปราการในระดับชั้นประถมศึกษา จากนั้นได้เข้าศึกษาต่อในระดับมัธยมศึกษาตอนต้นที่โรงเรียนอัสสัมชัญนครราชสีมา และศึกษาต่อระดับมัธยมศึกษาตอนปลายที่โรงเรียนอัสสัมชัญธนบุรี ก่อนจะศึกษาต่อในระดับปริญญาตรีที่คณะสหเวชศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยธรรมศาสตร์

สารัชเริ่มเล่นฟุตบอลมาตั้งแต่อายุ 7 ขวบ โดยเล่นเพื่อความสนุกสนานกับคุณพ่อและเพื่อนๆ และได้ตามไปดูคุณพ่อเล่นฟุตบอลบ่อยครั้งจนทำให้เขาเริ่มลงสนามฝึกซ้อมอย่างจริงจังตอนอายุ 10 ขวบ ขณะเรียนอยู่ชั้น ป.5 ที่โรงเรียนอัสสัมชัญสมุทรปราการ โดยมีมาสเซอร์ นฤพล มาฬมงคล เป็นโค้ชคนแรก

เส้นทางฟุตบอลอาชีพของเขานั้นเริ่มต้นขึ้นขณะที่เรียนชั้น ม.6 ช่วงใกล้ที่จะเรียนจะจบได้มีโอกาสเข้ามาเป็นนักเตะเยาวชนของสโมสรฟุตบอลเอสซีจี เมืองทอง ยูไนเต็ด เงินเดือนที่ได้รับครั้งแรกกับอาชีพนักฟุตบอลคือ 15,000 บาท ซึ่งในช่วงระยะเวลาที่เขาเป็นเด็กเยาวชนของสโมสรเมืองทองนั้นได้ถูกคาดหวังจากทางสตาฟโค้ชว่าจะได้เป็นกำลังหลักของสโมสรเมืองทองในภายภาคหน้าด้วยเหตุผลนี้ทำให้ทางสโมสรเอสซีจีเมืองทอง ยูไนเต็ด ส่งตัวเจ้าตังไปเก็บประสบการณ์กับทีมต่างๆอาทิเช่น ภูเก็ต เอฟซี และนครราชสีมา มาสด้า เอฟซี ในที่สุดเขาก็กลับมาเป็นตัวหลักให้สโมสรเอสซีจีเมืองทอง ยูไนเต็ด ได้อย่างดีเยี่ยม

ในนามทีมชาติ สารัช อยู่เย็น ได้ติดทีมชาติไทยในชุดเยาวชนทุกชุด และเข้าสู่อายุ 19 ปี สารัชก็ติดทีมชาติไทยชุดซีเกมส์ ครั้งที่ 26 ที่ประเทศอินโดนีเซีย ในขณะที่ถูกยืมตัวไปเป็นผู้เล่นให้กับสโมสรฟุตบอลจังหวัดภูเก็ต โดยมีประพล พงษ์พานิช เป็นผู้ควบคุมทีมชาติในขณะนั้น ผลงานของสารัชในนามทีมชาติไทยมีชื่อติดเรื่อยมา จนปี ค.ศ. 2013 ก็สามารถคว้าแชมป์ฟุตบอล แม่โขง คัพ แต่สารัชไม่มีชื่อติดในทีมชาติไทยชุดซีเกมส์ 2013 ที่ประเทศเมียนมาร์ และในปีนั้นสารัชได้สร้างผลงานให้กับสโมสรฟุตบอลนครราชสีมา มาสด้า เอฟซี ได้อย่างยอดเยี่ยมจนเป็นที่รักใคร่ของแฟนบอลชาวนครราชสีมา

ต่อมาในปี ค.ศ. 2014 สารัชเข้าสู่ทีมชาติไทยชุดเอเชียนเกมส์ 2014 ที่เมืองอินชอน ประเทศเกาหลีใต้ หลังจากมีผลงานที่ดีกับสโมสรฟุตบอลเอสซีจี เมืองทอง ยูไนเต็ด จน เกียรติศักดิ์ เสนาเมือง เรียกเข้าไปติดทีมชาติและได้พาทีมชาติไทยสร้างประวัติศาสตร์เข้าสู่รอบสี่ทีมสุดท้ายอีกครั้ง

และในปลายปี ค.ศ. 2014 ในการแข่งขันเอเอฟเอฟ ซูซูกิ คัพ 2014 สารัช อยู่เย็น ก็ร่วมเป็นหนึ่งในทีมชาติสามารถคว้ารางวัลชนะเลิศมาได้
