การวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อสังเคราะห์วิทยานิพนธ์เกี่ยวกับพัฒนาหลักสูตรท้องถิ่นในประเทศไทยระหว่างปีพุทธศักราช 2544 จนถึงปัจจุบัน กลุ่มตัวอย่าง คือ วิทยานิพนธ์ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการพัฒนาหลักสูตรท้องถิ่นในประเทศไทยที่พิมพ์เผยแพร่ตั้งแต่ปีพ.ศ.2544จนถึงปัจจุบันในสถาบันอุดมศึกษาในประเทศไทยจำนวน 36 สถาบันที่สืบค้นได้จากฐานข้อมูลโครงการเครือข่ายห้องสมุดในประเทศไทย(ThaiLIS) ผู้วิจัยใช้การสังเคราะห์เชิงคุณลักษณะ เครื่องมือคือ แบบบันทึกวิทยานิพนธ์ สถิติที่ใช้ คือ ร้อยละ ผลการวิจัยสรุปได้ว่า 1)สถาบันที่ผลิตงานวิจัยมากที่สุด คือ มหาวิทยาลัยบูรพา (18.18%) คณะครุศาสตร์/ศึกษาศาสตร์ผลิตงานวิจัยมากที่สุด (97.16%)ซึ่งเป็นสาขาหลักสูตรและการสอนมากที่สุด(48.30%) 2)การปรับหรือจัดทำหลักสูตรท้องถิ่นขึ้นใหม่ งานวิจัยส่วนใหญ่มีการสร้างหลักสูตร โดยการศึกษาข้อมูลพื้นฐาน การร่างหลักสูตรและตรวจสอบคุณภาพหลักสูตร การใช้หลักสูตร มีการใช้แผนการจัดการเรียนรู้ โดยครูและวิทยากรท้องถิ่นทำการสอนทั้งภายในและนอกโรงเรียน ทั้งยังมีการประเมินหลักสูตรก่อนใช้ ระหว่างใช้และหลังใช้หลักสูตร 3)การศึกษาเกี่ยวกับการพัฒนาหลักสูตรท้องถิ่น พบว่า มีการปรับหรือจัดทำเนื้อหา กิจกรรมการสอนและสื่อการสอนมากที่สุด ปัญหาที่พบ คือ ด้านบุคคล หลักสูตรและงบประมาณและผู้ที่มีส่วนร่วมในการพัฒนาหลักสูตรท้องถิ่นได้แก่ ครู ผู้บริหารสถานศึกษา คณะกรรมการสถานศึกษา นักเรียน ผู้ปกครอง ปราชญ์ท้องถิ่นหรือวิทยากรท้องถิ่น ศึกษานิเทศก์
