พล.ต.สรรเสริญ แก้วกำเนิด โฆษกประจำสำนักนายกรัฐมนตรี เปิดเผยถึงกรณีที่องค์กรนิรโทษกรรมสากล หรือ แอมเนสตี้ อินเตอร์เนชั่นแนล แสดงความเห็นถึงการควบคุมตัวและตั้งข้อหาผู้กระทำผิดตาม พ.ร.บ.คอมพิวเตอร์ พ.ศ. 2550 จำนวน 12 คน ว่า ประชาชนคนไทยทุกคนบนแผ่นดินนี้ มีสิทธิ์เข้าถึงและใช้งานโซเชียลมีเดียได้อย่างเสรี หากทำโดยสุจริต และที่ผ่านมาผู้คนหลายสิบล้านคน ใช้งานสื่อเหล่านี้โดยไม่มีปัญหาไม่เคยได้รับผลกระทบ ขณะที่การดำเนินคดีกับผู้ต้องหากลุ่มดังกล่าว เนื่องจากมุ่งจัดการกับผู้ที่ฝ่าฝืนกฎหมายให้ข้อมูลเท็จ ใส่ร้ายและละเมิดสิทธิ์ผู้อื่น รวมถึงสร้างความเกลียดชังในสังคม ซึ่งเท่ากับเป็นการบ่อนทำลายความมั่นคง และสวนทางกับสถานการณ์ปัจจุบันที่บ้านเมือง ต้องการความสงบเรียบร้อย

ทั้งนี้ รัฐบาลมีหน้าที่รักษาความสงบเรียบร้อยของบ้านเมือง และปกป้องดูแลผู้ที่ถูกละเมิดจากผู้อื่นให้ได้รับความเป็นธรรม และจะขอย้ำว่า การแสดงความคิดเห็นใดๆ ของคนไทยทุกคน ที่เป็นไปอย่างสุจริตและสร้างสรรค์ ไม่บิดเบือน หรือ สร้างความเสียหาย ย่อมได้รับความคุ้มครองตามกฎหมาย จึงขอเรียกร้องให้ทุกองค์กรทั้งในและต่างประเทศ ได้เข้าใจเจตนารมณ์ของรัฐบาล อย่าใช้เพียงหลักการหรือความรู้สึกมาประเมินเหตุการณ์ โดยไม่คำนึงถึงข้อเท็จจริง หรือหลักฐานที่ปรากฏให้เห็นอย่างชัดเจน
