จำลอง ฝั่งชลจิตร เริ่มงานเขียนหนังสือครั้งแรกเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2518 และในปี พ.ศ. 2521 ก็เริ่มมีผลงานตีพิมพ์ตามหนังสือพิมพ์ และนิตยสารต่าง ๆ กระทั่งปี พ.ศ. 2523 ได้มีผลงานรวมเล่มครั้งแรกในชื่อ “รวมเรื่องสั้น กองคาราวาน” ตามต่อด้วย “วรรณกรรมเยาวชน ขนำน้อยกลางทุ่งนา” ซึ่งได้รับรางวัลวรรณกรรมเยาวชนดีเด่นประจำปี 2524 จากคณะกรรมการพัฒนาหนังสือแห่งชาติ กรมวิชาการ และคณะกรรมการส่งเสริมและประสานงานเยาวชนแห่งชาติ นวนิยาย “คนขี่ม้าขาว” รวมเรื่องสั้น “สีของหมา” ได้รับรางวัลเรื่องสั้นยอดนิยม ประจำปี 2530 จากนิตยสารลลนา รวมเรื่องสั้น “สุภาพบุรุษไฟแช็ก” รวมเรื่องสั้น “น้ำใจยังหาได้” ฯลฯ
