ประวัติ
วัดสระเกศ เป็นวัดโบราณในสมัยอยุธยา เดิมชื่อวัดสะแก พระบาทสมเด็จพระพุทธยอดฟ้าจุฬาโลกมหาราชโปรดเกล้าฯ ให้ปฏิสังขรณ์และขุดคลองรอบพระอาราม แล้วพระราชทานนามใหม่ว่า วัดสระเกศ ซึ่งแปลว่า ชำระพระเกศา เนื่องจากเคยประทับทำพิธีพระกระยาสนาน เมื่อเสด็จกรีธาทัพกลับจากกัมพูชามาปราบจลาจลในกรุงธนบุรี และเสด็จขึ้นเถลิงถวัลย์ราชสมบัติใน พ.ศ. 2325
