ผมเชื่อว่าหลายๆท่านที่กำลังถือคอลัมน์นี้อ่านอยู่ คงรู้จักกับ “AI” (Artificial Intelligence) หรือที่ราเรียกในภาษาไทยว่า “ปัญญาประดิษฐ์” หากจะพูดให้เข้าใจง่ายโดยใช้ภาษาชาวบ้าน “AI ก็คือคอมพิวเตอร์ที่สามารถคิดและทำได้เหมือนอย่างมนุษย์นั่นเอง หลายปีมาแล้วที่มีการคิดค้นและพัฒนา AI อย่างไม่หยุดยั้งในประเทศที่เจริญด้วยเทคโนโลยีขั้นสูง เหคุผลก็มีมากมายหลายประการ อยู่ที่ว่าต้องการเหตุผลเพื่อมนุษยชาติหรือเหตุผลในเชิงการค้า ก็สุดแท้จะหยั่งถึงจริงๆครับ



อาจมีคนถามผมว่าทำไมจึงจำเป็นจะต้องสร้างให้มันคิดได้ทำได้เหมือนมนุษย์ด้วย? ก่อนอื่นผมต้องขอพูดเลยว่า ไม่เพียงแค่ แพทย์ นักคณิตศาสตร์ นักฟิสิกส์ นักวิศวกรคอมพิวเตอร์ ที่ให้ความสนใจเกี่ยวกับการทำงานของสมอง แม้แต่กระทรวงกลาโหมหรือนักการเมืองก็ยังสนใจเกี่ยวกับเรื่องนี้ “สมองมนุษย์” ประกอบด้วยเซลล์ประสาทที่ทำงานด้วยไฟฟ้าซึ่งเชื่อมต่อกันเหมือนเน็ตเวิร์ค (Network) และทำงานด้วยความเร็วที่น่าอัศจรรย์ซึ่งแม้แต่ซุปเปอร์คอมพิวเตอร์ก็ยังต้องยอมแพ้ การแพทย์ที่แม้จะก้าวหน้าไปมาก แต่ก็ยังไม่สามารถไขคำตอบได้ว่า “สมองมีการทำงานอย่างไร?” ซึ่งก็ตรงกับประเด็นที่เรากำลังคุยกันคือ AI พยายามที่จะสร้างขึ้นมาให้เหมือนกับการทำงานของสมองมนุษย์ที่ซับซ้อน ให้สามารถคิดและทำได้เรา และหวังว่าสักวันหนึ่งมันจะสามารถเข้ามาทำงานให้กับเราได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ โดยในอนาคต AI อาจมีรูปลักษณ์ภายนอกเหมือนมนุษย์ก็ได้ เพื่อความสัมพันธ์ที่ดีและความรู้สึกเป็นหนึ่งเดียวระหว่างมนุษย์กับ AI



ลองคิดภาพถึงคนทำงานที่เพียงต้องการแค่พลังงานชนิดหนึ่ง แต่ไม่จำเป็นต้องกิน ไม่จำเป็นต้องนอน ไม่ต้องถ่าย ไม่มีอารมณ์เสีย ไม่อิจฉาริษยา ทำงานมีประสิทธิภาพ มีเหตุผล และไม่ต้องจ่ายเงินเดือนดูสิครับ? ผมว่านักธุรกิจหลายท่านที่ได้อ่านถึงตรงนี้คงเริ่มพยักหน้าเห็นด้วยกับผมขึ้นมาบ้างแล้วว่า AI ช่างเป็นบุคลากรในอนาคตที่น่าลงทุนด้วยเสียนี่กระไร! ถ้าเป็นแบบนั้นพวกเรามนุษย์คงต้องพัฒนาศักยภาพให้มากขึ้นเพื่อแข่งขันกับหุ่นยนต์เสียแล้ว ไม่งั้นพวกเราคงต้องตกงานเป็นแน่ อย่างไรก็ตาม นักธุรกิจคงได้แต่คอตกเสียดายและมนุษย์เงินเดือนได้โล่งใจ เพราะการที่ AI จะพัฒนาถึงขั้นที่จะทำงานให้กับมนุษย์ได้นั้น ยังคงเป็นเรื่องที่ผมกล้าพูดเลยว่ายากและยังคงต้องใช้เวลา หรือแทบจะเป็นไปไม่ได้เลยในตอนนี้



ปัญหาในการพัฒนา AI อยู่ที่ว่ามันมีการคิดที่มีเหตุผล แต่มันไม่มีจิตสำนึก กล่าวคือผลลัพธ์ที่มันให้กับเรา เป็นผลลัพธ์ที่คิดจากเหตุผล หรืออาจเรียกพูดได้อีกอย่างว่า “มันคิดได้แต่มันไม่มีหัวใจ” มันคิดอย่างมีเหตุผลแต่ไม่ได้ทำการไตร่ตรองพร้อมจิตสำนึกในเรื่องของคุณธรรมจริยธรรมยกเว้นมีการโปรแกรมลงไป เพราะมนุษย์มีความละเอียดอ่อนในเรื่องของจิตใจและจิตสำนึก และดูเหมือนว่าบางครั้งมันก็อยู่เหนือการให้เหตุผลต่างๆด้วย และนั่นอาจทำให้ AI สับสนหรือขัดแย้งในตัวมันเอง ซึ่งเป็นสิ่งที่มนุษย์ธรรมดาเช่นเรามักสับสนอยู่เป็นประจำ เป้าหมายหลักของ AI มีอยู่ด้วยกันสองส่วนใหญ่ๆคือทางด้านของวิศวกรรมและวิทยาศาสตร์ เพื่อให้ AI มีสติปัญญาในการคิดและการกระทำเทียบเท่าหรือมากกว่ามนุษย์ แต่ผมคิดว่าทำได้ยากมากหรือแทบจะเป็นไปไม่ได้ เพราะก่อนที่คุณจะรู้ว่าสมองมนุษย์ทำงานอย่างไร คุณต้องรู้ก่อนว่าจิตทำงานอย่างไร อย่างมากคุณก็ทำได้แค่เลียนแบบจิตสำนึกของมนุษย์ แต่ตัวมันไม่อาจรู้สึกหรือสร้างจิตสำนึกด้วยตัวเองได้ เป็นเพียงแค่การลอกแบบและเชื่อว่าเป็นอย่างนั้นเพราะข้อมูลที่ได้รับมา ไม่ได้รู้สึกจริงว่าควรจะเป็นแบบนั้นเพราะอะไร และหากมนุษย์นำ AI ไปใช้ในทางที่ผิด เช่น การก่อสงคราม ก็จะนำหายนะมาสู่โลกของเราอย่างแน่นอน



หากผมพูดแต่ปัญหาและข้อเสีย เดี๋ยวจะหาว่าผมเป็นคนไม่ยุติธรรมไปซะก่อน ผมว่าข้อดีของ AI มีนับไม่ถ้วน เพราะ AI เป็นปัญญาประดิษฐ์ที่จะวิเคราะห์และประมวลผล แล้วจึงเลือกผลลัพธ์ที่ดีที่สุด ด้วยความที่ AI ไม่มีความกลัว ไม่มีอารมณ์หรือความรู้สึกเหมือนมนุษย์ จึงกระทำการด้วยความถูกต้อง แม่นยำ และมีประสิทธิภาพ ถ้าให้ผมยกตัวอย่างให้ชัดเจน เช่น การใช้ AI ในวงการแพทย์ ซึ่งจะช่วยผู้ป่วยได้อย่างรวดเร็วและมีประสิทธิภาพ การใช้ AI ในกระทรวงกลาโหม ในการป้องกันข้าศึกประชิดชายแดนหรือการป้องกันประเทศ หรือแม้แต่การใช้ AI ในทางวิชาการ เนื่องจาก AI สามารถวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลมากๆได้ในเวลาเดียวกันและสามารถคิดได้รวดเร็วกว่ามนุษย์ เป็นต้น
