ผลของการเปลี่ยนสภาพแวดล้อมและภูมิอากาศอย่างต่อเนื่องยังผลให้เกิดกระแสการผลิตและการบริโภคสินค้าและบริการที่เป็นมิตรต่อสิ่งแวดล้อมด้วยกลไกและเครื่องมือต่าง ๆ ที่ทั้งภาครัฐและเอกชนต่างนำมาใช้ เช่น กลไกจัดซื้อจัดจ้างสีเขียว ฉลากสิ่งแวดล้อม หรือฉลากคาร์บอน ดังนั้นในงานวิจัยนี้จึงได้ศึกษาการจัดทำคาร์บอนฟุตพรินท์ของมหาวิทยาลัยธรรมศาสตร์ มีจุดประสงค์เพื่อให้องค์กรใช้สำหรับเป็นฐานข้อมูลในวิเคราะห์การใช้ทรัพยากรและการปล่อยมลพิษสู่สภาวะแวดล้อม และสามารถนำผลไปใช้เพื่อการวางแผนจัดการในการลดการปล่อยก๊าซเรือนกระจกในอนาคต ขอบเขตในการศึกษานี้ใช้ข้อมูลของปี พ.ศ. 2553 โดยผลการศึกษาพบว่าปริมาณคาร์บอนฟุตพรินท์ทั้งหมด 34, 355 ตันคาร์บอนไดออกไซด์เทียบเท่าต่อปี โดยแบ่งออกเป็นขอบเขตที่ 1 คิดเป็น 1,693 ตันคาร์บอนไดออกไซด์เทียบเท่า ขอบเขตที่ 2 คิดเป็น 31,271 ตันคาร์บอนไดออกไซด์เทียบเท่า โดยที่กิจกรรมการใช้ไฟฟ้าเป็นกิจกรรมที่ส่งผลต่อการปล่อยคาร์บอนฟุตพรินท์มากที่สุดคิดเป็นร้อยละ 91 และขอบเขตที่ 3 คิดเป็น 1,391 ตันคาร์บอนไดออกไซด์เทียบเท่า หากพิจารณาคาร์บอนฟุตพรินท์ต่อจำนวนนักศึกษาจะเท่ากับ 1.62 ตันคาร์บอนไดออกไซด์เทียบเท่าต่อนักศึกษาหนึ่งคน
