จัดตั้งมหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่
พ.ศ.๒๕๐๑ ขณะที่หม่อมหลวงปิ่น มาลากุล ดำรงตำแหน่งรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงศึกษาธิการ มีโครงการเกี่ยวกับการศึกษาโครงการหนึ่งชื่อว่า "โครงการพัฒนาการศึกษาในส่วนภูมิภาค" คณะรัฐมนตรีก็มีมติเห็นชอบ ได้มีการประชุมที่จังหวัดเชียงใหม่ พ.ศ.๒๕๐๒ ได้มติว่าจะมีการจัดตั้งมหาวิทยาลัยที่จังหวัดเชียงใหม่ เพราะประชากรส่วนใหญ่ก็สนับสนุน สภาพแวดล้อมก็เหมาะสม และได้เสนอเรื่องราวให้คณะรัฐมนตรีเพื่อให้ความเห็นชอบและอนุมัติ ในที่สุด พ.ศ.๒๕๐๓ ก็ได้ดำเนินการจัดตั้งมหาวิทยาลัยอีกแห่งหนึ่งที่จังหวัดเชียงใหม่ มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่เริ่มเปิดสอนในปี พ.ศ.๒๕๐๗ และเปิดอย่างเป้นทางการวันที่ ๒๔ มกราคม ๒๕๐๘ โดยพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว พร้อมด้วยสมเด็จพระนางเจ้าฯ

8. ก่อตั้งหอวชิราวุธานุสรณ์เพื่อเป็นที่ระลึกในพระมหากรุณาธิคุณของพระบาทสมเด็จพระมงกุฏเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว เพื่อให้เป็นคลังสมบัติทางปัญญาในการค้นคว้ารวบรวมและเผยแพร่พระราชนิพนธ์ของพระองค์ท่าน
