ในการจัดทำรายงานการศึกษาค้นคว้าและสร้างสรรค์องค์ความรู้ ผู้จัดทำ ได้ศึกษาเรื่อง ภัยพิบัติทางธรรมชาติในประเทศไทย ผู้จัดทำได้มีการศึกษาค้นคว้าเนื้อหาเกี่ยวกับภัยพิบัติทางธรรมชาติในประเทศไทย รวมถึงข้อสงสัยต่างๆเกี่ยวกับภัยพิบัติทางธรรมชาติในประเทศไทย
ความเปนมาของภัยธรรมชาติในประเทศไทย
นับตั้งแตเริ่มกําเนิดโลกมา โลกของเราไดประสบกับวิกฤติการณความรุนแรงและการเปลี่ยนแปลงอยางมากมายอัน เนื่องมาจากภัยธรรมชาติ ซึ่งปจจุบันโลกก็ยังคงประสบอยู ภัยธรรมชาตินี้เปนกระบวนการทางธรรมชาติที่เกิดขึ้นทั้งในบรรยากาศภาคพื้นสมุทรและภาคพื้นดิน
ภัยธรรมชาติที่เกิดขึ้นนับเปนภัยพิบัติที่มีตอมนุษย ทรัพยสินและสิ่งกอสรางตาง ๆ ที่กอใหเกิดความเสียหายอย่างมหาศาล ชีวิตและทรัพยสินทั้งของสวนตัวและของสวนรวม รัฐและประชาชนตองใชทรัพยากรจํานวนมากเพื่อ ชวยเหลือและบูรณะฟนฟูพื้นที่ที่ไดรับความเสียหายจากภัยธรรมชาติ
สําหรับประเทศไทย นับวายังโชคดีกวาหลาย ๆ ประเทศในแถบเอเซียและแปซิฟก เพราะตั้งอยูในภูมิประเทศที่เหมาะสม พื้นดินมีความอุดมสมบูรณลมฟาอากาศดี มีฝนตกตองตามฤดูกาลเปนสวนมาก และมีปริมาณฝนเพียงพอแกกสิกรรม เรื่องภัยธรรมชาติที่เกิดขึ้นไมวาจะเกิดจากสภาวะอากาศ หรือเกิดจากธรรมชาติเองก็ตาม จึงมักไมใครเกิดไดบอยนัก และแมจะเกิดขึ้นแตก็ไมรุนแรง
ภัยธรรมชาติที่เกิดขึ้นในประเทศไทยมีอยูหลายรูปแบบ ที่สําคัญและสามารถสรางความเสียหายไดเปนอยางมาก คือวาตภัย อุทกภัย อัคคีภัยและแผนดินไหว วาตภัยและอุทกภัยมีสาเหตุหลักจากพายุหมุนเขตรอนและพายุฝนฟาคะนองรุนแรงในขณะที่อัคคีภัยและแผนดินไหว มนุษยมีสวนกระทําใหเกิดขึ้น
