นิทานพื้นบ้าน เรื่อง หนองหล่ม

จากตำนาน หนองหล่ม มีผู้เฒ่าผู้แก่กล่าวไว้ว่า หนองหล่มเป็นหนองน้ำสาธารณะประจำหมู่บ้าน หนองนาทราย ตำบลนาดินดำ อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดเลย

เมื่อหลายร้อยปีมาแล้ว มีหมู่บ้านแห่งหนึ่ง ตั้งอยู่ในพื้นที่ที่เป็นหนองหล่มในปัจจุบัน ชาวบ้านแห่งนี้มีความรักใคร่สามัคคีและกลมเกลียวกันดี และหมู่บ้านแห่งนี้เวลาเข้าป่าล่าสัตว์ หากผู้ใดได้สัตว์ที่เป็นสัตว์ใหญ่ จะต้องนำเนื้อสัตว์เหล่านั้นมาแบ่งปันเพื่อนบ้านกินกันทุกครัวเรือน และที่หมู่บ้านแห่งนี้มีพรานป่าที่มีชื่อเสียงที่สุด มีชื่อว่า พรานไก่
วันหนึ่ง ซึ่งนับว่าเป็นเคราะห์กรรมของชาวบ้านในหมู่บ้านแห่งนี้คือ พรานไก่ ได้ไปล่าสัตว์ แกได้ฆ่าอีเก้งเผือกตัวหนึ่ง แล้วรีบกลับมาที่หมู่บ้าน ชักชวนให้ชาวบ้านมาดูอีเก้งเผือกตัวนั้น เมื่อชาวบ้านมาดูอีเก้งเผือก ก็อยากลิ้มรสเนื้ออีเก้งเผือกตัวนี้ว่าจะอร่อยแตกต่างจากอีเก้งธรรมดาอย่างไร พรานไก่ และชาวบ้านจึงแบ่งเนื้ออีเก้งเผือกจนครบทุกครัวเรือน แต่ก็เป็นที่น่าประหลาดใจเพราะเนื้อของมันช่างมีมากเหลือเกิน ยิ่งชำแหละยิ่งมีมาก ขนกันไปเท่าไหร่ก็ไม่หมด และในเย็นวันนั้นชาวบ้านทั้งหมู่บ้านต่างได้ลิ้มรสของเนื้ออีเก้งเผือก ยกเว้นหญิงหม้ายคนหนึ่งที่ไม่ได้กินเหมือนคนอื่นๆเพราะแกออกไปไร่ ต่อมาพลบค่ำก็เกิดอาเพศ มีพายุและฝนตกอย่างรุนแรงลงมาอย่างไม่หยุดยั้ง จนเกิดน้ำท่วมและแผ่นดินที่ตั้งของหมู่บ้านก็ทรุดตัวลงไม่มีใครหนีรอด นอกจากหญิงหม้ายผู้นั้น ซึ่งพอแกกลับมาจากไปไร่ก็ไม่พบใคร พบแต่หนองน้ำใหญ่เวิ้งว้าง แกก็เลยตรอมใจตายตามเพื่อนบ้านไปด้วย ในบริเวณที่หมู่บ้านทรุดตัว แล้วกลายเป็นหนองน้ำใหญ่ ชาวบ้านจึงเรียกว่า หนองหล่ม มาจนถึงปัจจุบัน
