สภาพภูมิศาสตร์ของจังหวัดพังงา เป็นภูเขาสลับซับซ้อน ทอดเป็นแนวยาวจากทิศเหนือไปทิศใต้ มีชายฝั่งทะเลยาวประมาณ 239.25 กิโลเมตร มีพื้นที่ป่าไม้ เป็นป่าไม้ประเภทไม้ผลัดใบ มีชนิดป่าที่สำคัญ ได้แก่ป่าดิบเขา ป่าดิบชื้น และป่าชายเลน สำหรับบริเวณที่เป็นที่ราบจะลาดลงจากทิศตะวันออกไปยังทิศตะวันตก ลงสู่ทะเลอันดามัน ตามชายฝั่งทะเลจะมีป่าชายเลนเกือบตลอด พื้นที่ประกอบด้วยเกาะประมาณ 105 เกาะ และมีเกาะอยู่ในทะเลอันดามันจำนวนมาก เช่น เกาะยาว หมู่เกาะสุรินทร์ และหมู่เกาะสิมิลัน
