โครงการจัดการทรัพยากรประมงโดยชุมชนที่อ่าวบางสะพาน เป็นแห่งแรกของประเทศไทย จัดอบรมสร้างจิตสำนึกในการทำการประมงอย่างมีจรรยาบรรณและความรับผิดชอบ ให้กับชาวประมงในเขตพื้นที่และจังหวัดใกล้เคียง มีการวางปะการังเทียมหลายพันก้อนลงสู่ก้นทะเล เพื่อเป็นบ้านของพ่อแม่พันธุ์ปลาให้อาศัยวางไข่ เพิ่มผลผลิตทางประมงให้อ่าวไทย และยังเป็นแนวเขื่อนใต้ทะเลกั้นอวนลากของเรือประมงใหญ่ที่เคยเข้ามาทำประมงในบริเวณน้ำตื้นนี้ ส่งผลให้ระบบนิเวศที่ใต้ท้องงทะเลสมดุล รายได้และความเป็นอยู่ของชาวประมงที่ดีขึ้น ความเข้าใจและการมีส่วนร่วมของชุมชน ลดปัญหาความขัดแย้ง นับเป็นแนวทางสำคัญในการฟื้นฟูทรัพยากรอย่างยั่งยืนทั้งสิ้น
