การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ในการหาพื้นที่เสี่ยงน้ำท่วมและดินถล่ม จังหวัดจันทบุรีและเพื่อเป็นรากฐานข้อมูลให้กับหน่วยงานที่เกี่ยวข้องนำไปใช้ในการวางแผนหาแนวป้องกันโดยการประยุกต์ระบบสารสนเทศภูมิศาสตร์ในการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูล ซึ่งใช้ปัจจัยในการวิเคราะห์น้ำท่วม ได้แก่ ปริมาณน้ำฝน ความลาดชัน ระยะห่างจากเส้นทางน้ำ การระบายน้ำของดิน การใช้ประโยชน์ที่ดินและปัจจัยที่ใช้ในการวิเคราะห์ดินถล่ม ได้แก่ ปริมาณน้ำฝน ความลาดชัน ชนิดหิน การใช้ประโยชน์ที่ดิน ระยะห่างจากแหล่งน้ำ สภาพป่า โดยการให้ค่าคะแนนและค่าถ่วงน้ำหนัก แล้วนำไปประมวลผลในระบบสารสนเทศภูมิศาสตร์
ผลการศึกษา พบว่า พื้นที่เสี่ยงน้ำท่วมสูงมากในพื้นที่จังหวัดจันทบุรี มีร้อยละ 5.83 ของพื้นที่ทั้งจังหวัดอยู่ในอำเภอ ชลุง พื้นที่เสี่ยงน้ำท่วมสูงในพื้นที่จังหวัดจันทบุรี มีร้อยละ 12.44 ของพื้นที่ทั้งจังหวัดอยู่ในอำเภอ แก่งหางแมว พื้นที่เสี่ยงน้ำท่วมปานกลางในพื้นที่จังหวัดจันทบุรี มีร้อยละ 6.46 ของพื้นที่ทั้งจังหวัด พื้นที่เสี่ยงน้ำท่วมต่ำในพื้นที่จังหวัดจันทบุรี มีร้อยละ 0.00 ของพื้นที่ทั้งจังหวัดอยู่ในอำเภอ แก่งหางแมว โดยแสดงออกมาในรูปแบบของแผนที่ ซึ่งสามารถนำมาใช้เป็นฐานข้อมูลให้กับหน่วยงานนำไปใช้วางแผนและหาแนวป้องกันได้
