ความเป็นมาของ วันพ่อแห่งชาติ
วันพ่อแห่งชาติ ได้จัดให้มีขึ้นครั้งแรก เมื่อวันที่ 5 ธันวาคม พ.ศ. 2523 โดยคุณหญิงเนื้อทิพย์ เสมรสุต นายกสมาคมผู้อาสาสมัครและช่วยการศึกษาเป็นผู้ริเริ่ม

หลักการและเหตุผลในการจัดตั้ง วันพ่อแห่งชาติ
โดยที่พ่อเป็นผู้มีพระคุณมีบทบาทสำคัญต่อครอบครัวและ สังคม สมควรที่ผู้เป็นลูกจะเคารพเทิดทูนตอบแทนพระคุณด้วยความกตัญญู และสมควรที่สังคมจะยกย่องให้เกียรติรำลึกถึงผู้เป็นพ่อ จึงถือเอาวันที่ 5 ธันวาคม ของทุกปี ซึ่งเป็นวันเฉลิมพระชนมพรรษาเป็น วันพ่อแห่งชาติ ด้วยพระมหากรุณาธิคุณของพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวที่ทรงมีต่อพสกนิกรชาวไทยอย่างนานัปการ ทรงเป็นพระราชบิดาของพระราชโอรสและพระราชธิดาทรงรักใคร่และห่วงใยตั้งแต่พระเยาว์จนถึงปัจจุบันรวมทั้งพระวรวงศ์เธอพระองค์เจ้าโสมสวลีพระวรราชาทินัดดามาตุ เรืออากาศเอกวีรยุทธ ดิษยศริน พระสวามีในสมเด็จพระเจ้าลูกเธอเจ้าฟ้าจุฬาลงกรณ์วลัยลักษณ์และพระเจ้าหลาน เธอทุกพระองค์ ต่างซาบซึ้งและปลาบปลื้มในพระมหากรุณาธิคุณอย่างมิรู้ลืม พระองค์ทรงเป็น พ่อ ตัวอย่างของปวงชนชาวไทยที่เปี่ยมล้นด้วยพระเมตตากรุณา ทรวงห่วงใยอย่างหาที่เปรียบมิได้ ดังบทร้อยกรองเทิดพระเกียรติว่า
